Sunny Spring Afternoon, Dunmore East

My second painting from yesterday's paint-out (21st March). There was glorious sunshine for a couple of hours in the afternoon, before the fog eventually swept in. I'm a bit of a "contre-jour" junkie, and couldn't resist this. I may go blind prematurely though!

Comment by Michael McGuire on March 28, 2010 at 7:56: Thanks Karen. Yeah, wasn't it such a fantastic afternoon and a great bit of banter in the pub afterwards too! We always complain about the weather in Ireland, but days where it rains from morning to evening are rare enough, especially in the South East. Coping with the changeable weather can be challenging but for us painters it is far more interesting than waking up to a clear blue sky every morning!

I'm fairly pleased with this too, but there's always something - in this case I feel that the foreground rocks are too dominant - if I were starting again, I think I'd move them more to the right. But then again, If I had done that, I wouldn't have got the strong counterchange of the rocks against the sunlit water.
