I only started painting in Enniscorthy at 2-00 pm by which time the showers has really taken over. I remember at one stage that I had my easel under one of the dry bridge arches beside me, and that I had to run out about twenty feet into the rain to look at the scene. Isn't plein air fun!

Thanks Elaine and James. I'm in my "comfort zone" with stuff like that. As for street scenes, well that's an entirely different matter!

Great capture of that rushing water - you can really feel the flow.

Michael, this is another one of your gorgeous water-glinting paintings! Very nice!

It was great to meet you too, Norah. Check me out on Wetcanvas (you need to sign up to view archive material) and you will see that my plein airs looked a lot less finished a couple of years back. Regarding finishing off at home, my own view is that for a "true" plein air artist the finishing off becomes unnecessary as one's skill level improves, because working plein air eventually facilitates rather than impedes the painting process. I would strongly recommend that "finishing touches" should only take a few minutes, perhaps softening edges and filling in a few blank patches here and there. Anything more than that and you risk losing what you gained or else you are just trying to correct mistakes through little more than guesswork. Better use your valuable painting time starting another plein air painting than messing around in the studio!

Yes Michael - great fun, how do you get such a finished look to all your plein-air paintings or do most people finish off at home ? I spent all afternoon today painting in Sligo but the painting still needs finishing touches. I am really getting to love plein-air but finding it a whole new skill and great to meet you in Wexford
