Comment by Terence Gillespie on March 3, 2012 at 0:43 Thanks Michael. Point well made. I chose to include the quay /towpath expecting to catch it fully flooded as it has been in previous winters and to also to allow for boats during the summer. I never considered the compositional weakness. (Incidentally this is No.43, am aiming for 100 before Art in the Open)
You're starting to produce some pretty decent stuff, Terry! There's a lot to like about this one. Just one small suggestion. It's best to avoid lines that lead straight out of the painting (especially parallel ones, often referred to as the "train track" effect). Try to find some way of "stopping" the viewer's eye at the edges of the painting. You're very close to doing it here - that little brown shrub on the left would work if it extended up just a tad, and the figure almost works on the right. I think if you suggest some dappled sunlight agross the pathway (it's on the grass), leaving the edges in shadow, that would work better. It would also add some interest to the road and break up the "train track" effect. Good stuff (and you're not even close to No 100!).

That house is" nestled " nicely between castle and tree.........
Comment by Terence Gillespie on March 1, 2012 at 20:13 Thank you folks. It is indeed Leighlinbridge Breda. I got so carried away with the "high vis" yellow coat that the figure is a bit large and there is an issue of scale which makes the castle look small.

Comment by Breda Stacey on March 1, 2012 at 16:59 Terence, thats a lovely painting. Yes, the yellow jacket, very interesting! Is it the castle in Leighlinbridge?
Comment by Karen Scannell on March 1, 2012 at 16:48 Love that yellow jacket !
It's really interesting how your focus of attention shifts in each painting. .Great piece!
