I have just seen your comment Sean, apologies for not replying before now.  Yes, often in our search for a better tool we buy expensive paints but sometimes with student grade paints and the right frame of mind you get something that works.  Mind you, when it comes to watercolour I think the best paper you can afford helps an awful lot

Nice one norah.

Beautiful watercolour, Norah.  The shadows  on the ground are really stunning.   Regarding Cotman grade paints, my own opinion is that the quality would probably be as good as the great man himself was using.

Thank you Pat, just doing some for when we move - memories of warm days and fragrant flowers of June

and the squeaky blackboards - too chalky for me but I have been using oil pastels and white gouache on wc recently

Thanks for the tips.  I've resorted to trying pastels. Rummaging for the correct stick stirred some deep-seated subconscious memories of cailc and national school-days.

Thank you Sally, the garden is doing its best to keep us here as it is at its best after 12 years of tlc.  student wc set seems fine to me as long as you dont use too much water.  I scrub the pans  with a bristle brush to prime the paints other wise you just get dishwater colours

Lovely Norah.  I love the lengthening shadows and the way the plants in the middle ground catch the light.  That was a good find.
