I went down to Carnsore Point yesterday, planning to paint some big skies against the flat landscape. Very surprised to find the whole area shrouded in fog. Returned home after about an hour and painted these roses in my garden instead. I've included a close-up to show brushwork / texture. Roses, especially pink ones, are difficult to paint, so some more work in the studio this morning. Not sure if purists would still consider it plein air then, but I couldn't have done it from a photo regardless. The painting is oil on 12" x 12" MDF board.

Thanks Deirdre. I think I'd still have preferred to paint big skies!
