This was my first time staying in Venice, and our group were staying in various places in the San Polo area. All around here there are small canals which are used by boats carrying building materials and private boats as well as the tourist gondolas.

This was a bit off the tourist route, so the only gondola I saw here belonged to a man who was stopping off for his lunch.
