Plein Eire

Your Site For Artists Who Paint Outdoors

I just thought I'd share a couple of links to artist Bill Wray's website and blog. Bill used to do a lot of plein air work, putting life and limb in danger in some seriously dangerous parts of Los Angeles, but appears to be concentrating more on studio work recently. He used to post quite a bit on Wetcanvas and that is where I first came across his work. I believe he is doing some extraordinary and unique stuff. Here are the links to his website and blog:-

The blog is worth visiting for this extraordinary painting alone:-

Glad someone else sees something in his work, RoseMary! He seems to revel in turning the mundane into really powerful paintings.
His work has evolved a lot over the last couple of years and he is no longer really a plein air artist, but interestingly he still credits all those years of working plein air with making him the painter he is today. Hope for all of us then!

oh i think they are wonderful, is it the texture or the composition?? i can't decide, but they have gravitas if that is the right word

Left a comment yesterday but must have forgot to submit. His art is brilliant. The red trolley in the basement with the light gently coming in overhead is my favourite, or maybe it is the one of the plane coming in to land in that beautiful atmosphere he creates, and then I also love the old campervans - just a great site and I will be returning to it regularly - Thanks Michael for the link
Glad you found the shopping trolley one, Norah. If it's possible to make a beautiful painting out of that, then it's possible to make a painting out of anything, regardless of the weather!
