For the first event of the year I am proposing a visit to the National Gallery, Dublin. Just a visit, no painting, to reacquaint ourselves with the newly re-furbished gallery. Who might we meet on the Turret Staircase? These dark days of January are also a rare chance to view the Turner watercolours there, in the Henry Vaughan collection. Not just the Gallery also refers to the fact that the National Museum in Kildare St. is close by and is literally a treasure trove of Irish Art in Gold, silver, glass etc. etc. from the last five millennnia. With a dramatic Egyptian section displaying among other things, stunningly realistic portraits from 2000 years ago. Also, on Nassau Street is Trinity college with the Book of Kells etc. As the Nat. Gallery cafe is always crowded, and dreadfully noisy, with tiny tables, I am proposing that we meet up in Buswells Hotel on Kildare St at 11 and again at .3pm. Nearest Dart station is Pearse Street.

Thanks for your generous comments, Anna. I featured that portrait and our response to it in the Plein Eire blog. This could well become an annual event.
what a great day yesterday, Sean. I really enjoyed it and am still in awe of that potrait. Best thing I have seen for years. Dying to get back to work after the Christmas break.
Would love to be there Sean but will be attending the happy event of a christening. I'm sure you will all have a great time. Looks like there's so much to do that you will have to make a second trip. My fingers are crossed.
a nice start to the new year. will bring some paints,
Thank you all for your encouraging remarks. I didn't know if I was going to end up on my own or not, as this is different from the usual. So I thought I'd send it up the flagpole and see if anyone saluted!
Great idea! I'm bringing my paints as well as I would love to paint in Merrion Square or Stephen's Green.
Yip, this is a really nice idea Sean. Hope I can make it.
That is a lovely idea Sean and I always make it in to the Turner exhibition so it will be great to be in good company this time. If the weather is reasonable I will be off to paint too though - Stephens green is always good for sketching or painting and even on a sat there are quiet places to hide away in.
