This Saturdays paintout is in the environs of Ray Church Falcarragh, which dates back to medieval times( 6th century .. Its founder is believed to be a St Fionnān.This church lies along side the River Ray and houses a high cross (8th centuary) .This cross is the largest early Medieval stone cross in Ireland,Local Lore claims it was made by Columba in 521 on Muckish mt to bring to Tory Island. The Church was actually destroyed by Oliver Cromwell in the 17th century during a Sunday Mass. The entire congregations was slaughtered in the Massacre. The dead are buried in a mass Grave called the Resting Place of the Bones.(Lag na Gcamh) ....near by.
So you might agree, its worthwhile recording this monument through paint, or whatever medium you prefer for prosperity.
We are meeting up in Sean Barrick cafe at 11 am for coffee and catch up, and later at 3pm ish in Teac Colls for lunch.
All welcome.
