There have been lots of suggestions this week but the winning idea is to visit the annual Experience Japan day over in Farmleigh, Phoenix Park. The event was really lovely last year - very busy but a fantastic day out.

From the website:

This group has come together to organise Experience Japan Events. In this years event, Dubliners will be able to join the Japanese community at a free programme of events and enjoy a range of family-friendly activities. The setting for this event is the wonderful historical ambience of the Farmleigh estate, an 18th century house and gardens magnificently refurbished by the state in recent years.

This event will include:

Taiko drums performances

Fusion of Japanese shakuhachi music & the Irish harp

Origami and taiko drum workshops for children

Story telling under the cherry blossoms- Martial arts demonstrations

Cosplay fashions framed with traditional Kimono displays

Japanese Food stallsAnd much more ....

So! There you have it. We will meet at 2pm at the front of Farmleigh House - the event takes place behind it and will be pretty busy. If you can't find fellow sketchers, don't worry - everyone will meet up again back at the front of the House at 4pm. Should be a lovely day and here's hoping the weather holds up. I have to go home this weekend again unfortunately so I won't be about !

Enjoy!

Hello and Happy Friday to you all!

With the sun shining on us this week we have to go out and take the opportunity to spend time in the great outdoors, so this Sunday we will be found wandering the Phoneix Park - specifically the area surrounding the Magazine Fort. There are spectacular views from this area across to the Dublin Mountains - so it's perfect for a nice spot of painting or sketching. We will meet at the foot of the Fort - just by the exit from the Park to the Conyngham Road.

For those on foot - the best entrance is the turnstile entrance which is just on the Conyngham Road at the Junction of the South Circular. When you walk up those steps, turn left and follow the road until you see the fort up in front of you. It's a lovely walk. If you are walking from the main entrance to the Phoenix Park, it will take about 15-20 minutes - take a left after the large Wellington Monument and keep going. You'll see it in front of you on your right.

There is lots of information on the Magazine Fort here on the Abandoned Ireland site - well worth taking a look before visiting! http://www.abandonedireland.com/pf.html Also, very closeby is Farmleigh House and gardens, plus numerous beautiful open areas and woodlands to spend some time in. Definitely won't be short of something to inspire you!

At 4pm, we will meet back at the Fort, at the bottom of the hill near the Islandbridge junction. From there, we will decide what to do for coffee, whether it be the Zoo cafe/tea gardens or another alternative. Here's to the fine weather and it staying sunny for us! Check the blog for a map of the area if you are unsure of the Phoenix Park layout!

See you on Sunday,

We will all meet just outside the entrance to the zoo at 2pm - those who wish to go inside sketching can do so and those who prefer to wander around Phoenix Park in general will do that. We will all then meet up again at the same place at 4pm - I think it would be really nice to bring some sandwiches/munchies etc. and we can have a picnic of sorts afterwards as there isn't really much choice in cafe's in that neck of the woods!

Here's hoping for some fine weather so that we can take advantage!

For those on the DART, get off at the Salthill stop as mentioned above, or get the No.7 bus from the city centre.

The exhibition will be closing at 4pm, at which time we will meet up again for a coffee outside the Knox Hall. See you all there - anyone who hasn't been out with us before just have a sketchpad out and we'll make sure you get introduced to everyone.

TracySunday 4th July - Christchurch Cathedral Areatag:pleineire.ning.com,2010-07-02:4851125:BlogPost:68202010-07-02T16:03:26.000ZDublin Sketchershttps://pleineire.ning.com/profile/DublinSketchers

Hi all,

This week we will head for the Christchurch, Winetavern
St. area of Dublin where the Kings of Concrete Festival is taking
place. For those interested in the Kings of Concrete Festival, here is
a link to the many activities which will be taking place in the area -
which is pretty much at the back of the Dublin City Council offices. http://www.kingsofconcrete.com/images/schedule_full_3_smll.jpg

All kinds of activities will be taking from skating to rollerblading, Parkour, breakdancing, BMX and even Graffiti.

Christchurch
Cathedral is around the corner, plus St. Audeon's Church next to that.
Also, the NCAD end of year exhibit closes on Sunday so it would be
great to go and see that after sketching perhaps.. or for the early
birds - beforehand!

So there you have it. We will meet at 2pm, at the back entrance to
Dublin City Council - which is literally at the junction of Fish Amble
Street and the top end of Dame Street (Lord Edward St. to be exact..
but you know where I mean anyway!!).

See you all there - perhaps bring sunscreen and an umbrella as the
weather Gods don't seem to be too sure what to throw at us lately!

Anyone new - just bring a sketchpad and we'll spot you. Don't be shy - no need!
