Was that before inflation, Kevin?
Or perhaps its because it had an east wing and a west wing?

What are counter strokes, David? There is a fair amount of scraping off in this one - mainly to just give a bit of variety to the different planes of the buildings but also to make it a bit less distinct and to 'rough it up' a bit. A burnt sienna ground is showing through as a result.
Thanks for your mother's saying, Sally. I'll remember that one.

I think that's Jerusalem Michael, not fairy forts.

And Karen, it'd have been even more economical if I could have got the scraped-off paint back in the tube, but I just couldn't get it in! Not for want of trying, though.

Love the underpainting - so Cahore must be in Co. Wexford - well worth a visit after seeing some of the paintings from your paint-out

Tony, I love the strength in your paintings. This one and your last one of Wexford especially have what my mother would have described as gurrum.

The underpainting does really add something to this. I'm almost afraid to ask about the title! But perhaps there is an innocent explanation. After all, there are fairy forts and trees all over our green and pleasant land.

Are those counter strokes part of the beige under painting--really works well with just a skin of paint
