Yes pulling pots and pushing paint. By the way do you do any simi studio/plein air work ?
  • Karen Scannell

Both...It was renewed about 12 years ago. A storm on Christmas eve blew a section of it off..so I guess I've been very wary since..not good to be hanging from a roof in gales!!
  • Michael McGuire

Thanks David. Doing a solo show in mid-October. Nothing like a deadline to focus the mind!
  • Margaret Kent

    Thank you David.
Our weather is still holding up and we had a lovely day at Newbay House / woods on Sunday, a bit like down by the Mill in Enniscorthy during the Festival but even more covered in [without the rain ! ]
  • Plein Eire Administrator

Hope the image comes through this time, David. Please let me know when you receive the frames and paintings and how you get on with the presentation. Your stolen painting was retrieved but not without damage to the original frame so I have replaced it with the nearest I had to that pattern - not quite as good I'm afraid. I had to replace Paul's as well. - With apologies.
  • Patrick Brennan

Hadent thought of it that way. yes it is a studio piece, studio being the garage. It is a piece questioning which way up a painting should be hung, plus a question on my own state of being.
  • Vincent Crotty

Hi David, thanks! My time at the 2010 was brief. I could only stay for a day and a half. I hope I meet you there next year. If ever in Boston, give me a shout! I moved to Boston twenty years ago. From County Cork originally. Good to hear from you! Vin.
  • Karen Scannell

    ...not good enough excuse David!!(kidding)
  • Michael McGuire

Thanks David. There was this huge bull under the tree when I started that one, but he went down to the lower half of the field after a few minutes. So I had to settle for the cows!
  • Michael McGuire

Thanks for asking, David. Had a great crowd on opening night and sold a couple of paintings too. Just sold two more since then (but at least they were large pieces). Things have gone really slow here and all artists are being hit hard.
  • Karen Scannell

Congratulations on your one-person show!! I know it'll go well for you. You certainly worked hard enough while you were over here.Maybe send us a couple of shots of your opening night..on a blog maybe??
  • Karen Scannell

Delighted your opening went well for you...sounded like the perfect ending to the perfect day!!
  • Karen Scannell

Well, it's confirmation your on the right path and the fact your enjoying what you do is an added bonus!! ..hope you have many more days like it!
  • Philip Dundon

Hi David, Happy Thanksgiving Day to you and Ardis
  • Karen Scannell

    Happy Thanksgiving to you both!
  • Karen Scannell

Hey David...hope your metabolism hasn't slowed down with all that Thanksgiving grub!..looking forward to your nocturnes. Wind chill here was at least -2 degrees, hope your having better luck!! Snow today.
  • Karen Scannell

We'll keep an eye out for that David..thanks..maybe another nocturne is on the cards!!....let see where are all those tips...fingerless gloves thermal wear, electric gloves, bamboo fibre thermals, Canadian boots, polyester fleece pants, pajama bottoms, hot toddy...........once the list is checked I may miss the event!!

  • Karen Scannell

mightn't even get through the door... and a fire pit sounds too much like i could be a cheap dinner for someone.... times are hard you know!!

I've been trying the fingerless gloves myself, you've just reminded me of the PAIN. Hands being warm and fingertips freezing seems to intensify the pain!! So you use fleece fingerless gloves or fleece full length gloves??

  • Karen Scannell

Hold on now...you comparing me to a pig??....with fleece glove trimmings....??...and thick...?

  • Philip Dundon

"Athbhliain faoi mhaise daoibh".....Happy New Year, to you and Ardis, and hope it's a prosperous one too! Good Luck for now.
  • Karen Scannell

Wishing you all the Best this New Year David!!

  • Karen Scannell

Thanks for the comment David...good idea, although it's a bit like painting, inspiration visits you one day...and ignores you the next!! You any goals for New Year?

    Hi David.

If I type in car rental Ireland on the internet, the general price range per weeks car rental from Dublin Airport seems to be around 100 euro for a one liter car for a week.

Did you find renting a car helpful last year? You know you'll have a lift with myself or others if you decide not to rent this year.

If the other artist is thinking of traveling further than Wexford during they're stay..for convenience and freedom (if it were me), I think I'd hire a car. There are many locations to stop and explore, which public transport may not allow for in flexibility.

Let me know if you'd like me to check anything out in more detail for you..

    Karen

    Hi David,

The National Bus Service is Bus Eireann. Here's a link:

    http://www.buseireann.ie/

Connemara covers a wide area of Co.Galway

Galway City is a good base to start from.

I can't find a  direct route from Wexford to Galway, and seems to require links going from either :

    Wexford-Limerick-Galway

    or

    Wexford - Dublin-Galway

From Wexford I still think that hiring a car would give much more flexibility, and less time traveling, particularly if they want to explore certain areas in connemara.

If they plan the journey well, and especially if a stop in Athlone is scheduled, driving shouldn't be too stressfull

I'll look into the public transport services, and will have more details for you tomorrow...

  • Karen Scannell

    Hi David,

Bus Eireann got back to me today with this...Wexford-Galway:

    Hello

Best way to travel is via Dublin . you take route no 1 to Dublin (hourly service) and from Dublin to galway buses hourly from 0700 to 2100 each day.

     Rgds

I'll check out train routes later.....

  • Margaret Kent

Thanks David, the weather was definitely not conducive to watercolour yesterday, looking forward to seeing you both again in August
  • Karen Scannell

    Hi David,

I hear you've been achieving Great things ...accepted into Wayne and Easton plein air events .They're juried entry aren't they? Congrats you must be "painting up a storm"!!

  • Elaine Hurst

Thanks, David.  I am still looking into either bus or car.  I would like to rent a car, but it looks like the car hire in Wexford, I couldn't rent the car and bring it back on the day I need to be back in Wexford before I have to go to Dublin to fly home.  I am very excited about the whole time in Ireland!

  • Elaine Hurst

I'm not sure if I am brave enough to drive out of Dublin.  I've never driven on the left side.  I thought I could handle it out of a smaller area, but Dublin might be more than I want to handle all at once.  I'm still looking.  Thanks!
  • Karen Scannell

    Hey David.....not long now!!

Would you not be tired after traveling??

Hook head is "penciled in " for the Tuesday your arriving, which is probably a bit far .It takes roughly about 2 hours to travel down from Dublin...unless your taking the bus or train(which would be more like 3 hrs).

So if your arriving late morning on  Tuesday, allowing for food stops etc..it could be 3/4 o clock before you get down to Wexford.

Not too late perhaps for an evening paintout...but check your "tired gage" first!!

Looking forward to seeing you both again!

  • Karen Scannell

Hey David...It was a bit chilly in the morning alright, but it had completely turned around by the afternoon..shorts and t- shirts wouldn't have gone astray!! Make sure you prepare for all weathers for your trip across the pond!
  • Karen Scannell

That's great news David..you'll be here a couple of days early?? Fantastic you'll get to look around and relax into it! You can tell we're all getting excited about the festival? Your in for a treat this year :))

I'll email you regarding accommodation - it's no problem. Talk soon!!

  • Elaine Hurst

I finally did rent a car in Wexford.  I am not brave enough to drive around Dublin.  I'll go exploring after the festival.  I have one place to stay with some friends near Connemara.  Looking forward to meeting everyone in a couple weeks.
  • deirdre shanny

We're keeping an eye on her from here, and thinking of you all............

  • Karen Scannell

Hey David ..how you do'in ??

The Exhibition in Enniscorthy looks really impressive. The new venue (Enniscorthy library), and "showing them in the location they were painted, has given me a new appreciation of the works!

I think the people of Enniscorthy received it well, and are appreciating their town all the more.

The Exhibition runs until September 9th.  Did you have a good birthday, and how did the showing of your works turn out??
