Thanks for your comment. It reassures me that at least the green spot is neither terminal nor contagious. I still have it though - on my profile in the members gallery. I'm new to this business of commenting etc. so please forgive my sensitivity.
Hi Plein Eire Admin,
Just to say 'hello' and thanks for Welcome! I've just posted a few photos to make myself more colourful! I go out occasionally on Sundays with the Dublin sketchers and I attend life drawing sessions in the Trinity Arts Workshop & the United Arts Club. Great site, well done! Karmyl
I'm seriously thinking about the weekend in Wexford - in this weather it would be heavenly - but I have to organise my Schedule first. May I ask, can one take part in the Festival in relaxed mode without actually entering any competition/exhibition? Thanks. Karmyl
hi,
thanks for reply - I wouldn't go to Wexford unless I took part in the painting weekend - I just don't want to enter any competitions at the moment. Anyway, I'll have a 'think'!
karmyl
Dear Plein Eire Admin. Thanks for the Welcome!! First of all, I love the name of this community. Great! I found the site because I have a "google alert" set for plein air painting. One day your site came up on the search and I followed up.
Thanks for the warm welcome. Only starting out as a painter and very impressed with all the gorgeous artwork on this site. Just finished John Dinan's excellent painting workshop last week so full of enthusiasm :)
Thank you for lovely welcome! Really great site and looking forward to Wexford!!! I didn't manage to sign up from my own laptop. Sally did it remotely for me and it worked??? Don't know why!
Looking forward to this weekend Hope weathers going to be ok Do we start painting on friday? Is it ok to put a base colour on the canvas or do they have to be white when stamped? MANY THANKS
Thank you for your welcome to the site. Its wonderful to see a community of artists together and also landscape painters too. I have been looking to connect with other plein air painters for some time, so this is great.
Thank you for your welcome and thanks to my niece Sophie I got my pictures posted on site (the next time I have to do it will be another story!). I am a member of the Lakeland Art Group. I became interested in plein air painting only in the last couple of years and it requires a huge effort on my part to get out there but when I do I really enjoy it.
There you go- the real me! I'll put up some of my pics on the page. I did consider plein air painting with my laptop but it seems like it'd be pretty cumbersome! I like the feel of the trad brush/paint/pastel anyway. I'm living in Galway at the moment and would love the chance to meet up with others who want to paint together. If there are any groups there, please let me know!
Apologies, I will remove the non-plein air work! I must ask how exactly one applies to the Plein Eire West group?
Ipads could be used for working outside, but unfortunately I don't have one yet and probably won't get one for a while, they are absurdly expensive! Maybe in the future.
Members need to be approved to join the Plein Eire West group, so I've added John Dinan as friend and am waiting for him! Meanwhile I'll have fun looking around this site. Some really nice stuff here!
Most certainly could not be regarded as an outdoor painter to date ..... and probably will be terrible at it ! ... but an artist should always be prepared to experiment .... if not ; they should get a day job !
Wow, a yellow card already. I fully understand and even as I was uploading the images I kinda knew I was offside. Sorry about the misunderstanding on my behalf. It's been a few years since I did a complete painting outdoors but I am looking forward to joining in and having a go again. I will delete the images and if it's possible stay on as a member until my first genuine en plein air painting is complete, if this is allowed.
Cheers,
Tony.
Hi
I have been about two years. This year I have been painting with Kenneth and Susan Webb at there summer school and I hope to be there next for another session next week.As my wife Fionnuala is from Wicklow we often there I would prefer to stop with the Wicklow.
Best Regards
Liam
No problem at all as soon as I have "real " pleine eire " paintings I will post in the mean time i will remove these . I hadnt properly read the notes . Looking forward . Are there any groups in Cork ? by any chance Edel
Dear adminisrator ,
Im having trouble removing the image I accidentally downloaded instead of a photo , if possible have you access to delete this image . or perhaps let me know how i can . Sorry for inconvenience Edel
Thank you for the warm welcome!! Couldn't have put it better myself!
We do try to warm your cockles & keep them dry with a bit of booze & a lot of boobs!
Hopefully, some of your members will pop along & have a laugh with us!
If you're around yourself for the next one, drop me an email & I'll send toyon a complimentary ticket.
sorry for the image it was what ihad at hand at the time I will ort out a proper photo soon. Unfortunitly I suffer that aliment called having to work for a living, presently on nights. will check in as often as posible .
203 members now. About competition - what about doing a plein air in the style of a well known plein air painter, maybe getting to choose from a panel of 10 dead or alive?
If conditions are right I could be nocturning.
I was trying to think of some incentive to get artists to respond. Painting as somebody else can give one an appreciation of other artists that one might not have had. The flaw is, people would choose artists they are already close in style to. Michael won't choose Pollock, etc. We can't impose choices but maybe we could have a lottery.
I dunno, that's my idea anyway.
Thanks for the welcome. Yes, Plein Air magazine is coming back and I will be the editor. After 31 years of commuting 3 hours a day into NYC to edit American Artist magazine, I am delighted to be working next to my painting easel and the plein air supplies that are packed and ready for the next warm day (which won't come for several more months).
With the last name of Doherty, you know I have an affection for the Irish and look forward to returning to your country with my painting supplies. In the mean time, please keep me informed about all that is going on. We're building an international community of artists, collectors, dealers, and suppliers who don't mind having bugs in their paint and rain drops on their watercolor paper.
Plein Air will be both a print and digital magazine, making it easy for artists to read outside the US, and there will be more content in the digital version than in the print magazine.
Unfortunately, there are not much plein air painters around here in Portugal. We don't have those hundreds of artists associations that can be found in Ireland or UK or USA or Australia to name but a few. Let me say that I'm proud of being here among those wonderful artists. Thanks again.
This is wonderful, I am delighted to be a member of the Plein Eire. I have been painting for many years and although I have painted outdoors in Australia , I have done little or none in my own fair land. When actually you get out there it is not as cold as you think it is..... being lost in the moment takes the cold away anyway.
My aim is to enjoy this for many year. so thank you for the welcome.
I teach watercolour to a group of students under the umbrella name of levisart. I hope that a number of artists who know me or are being taught by me might join me in painting outdoors etc. - there is nothing to compare with painting outdoors for light, atmosphere etc.
....hi tony ...sorry for long delay time on reply ......the hostel we stayed in last year in wexford was fine ..busy ...bring your own grub....lots of young punters in and out...hey it worked for me....Are the entry forms out for this years Wexford paintout...

It's around Newry , Co Down . It is a beautiful spot much underrated because of were it is. But gosh its cold up there even on a good day. Painted it last Thursday.
That's brilliant. Long time since we all painted out! Looking forward to seeing all you experts at work and picking up some tips for outside work. So good to get an opportunity to paint with other like minded folks!
PS Do we go to a restaurant for lunch or do you byo?
thanks for your advise, still try to get around this computing bit,did not realise they had to be plein aire, will change them to blogs, and put one day outdoor art work up
Much apprceiate your 'Welcome' letter on my membership of the Group. Of course I will follow your suggestions. I will aslo expand on the content over the coming days.
Thank You Annmarie.
I am at it for years..had a good teacher in New York.I have taught some plein air on Inisbofin island. To be honest it is tough...managing the weather etc. Midges stuck to paint....I will try and find my way around the site.
