Hi All - It's that time of the year again - I can arrange a Plein Air paint-out at the Irish National Stud and I am wondering if Saturday 11-July might be suitable.  I am not sure how to post the event for all to see but you can be sure you are all welcome!  As before, the plan is to meet up in the I.N.Stud cafe  from 10-30. The Stud is situated about one mile from M7 Exit 13.

I hope you can make it.....

  • Bernadette McCarthy

I am looking forward to the paint out in the National Stud.  I really enjoyed the last two years there.  Thanks Michael for organizing it.  Is it still on?

  • Valerie Syms Martin

    I hope so - I'm going.

  • Michael Keogh

Yes it is on - I wonder why you think it is not on?  All is arranged.  I look forward to seeing you there!

  • Carole Ann Margaret Cullen

Maybe Valerie wasnt sure whether it was on Michael, was because you posted a query whether Sat 11 was suitable ? Sounds enviro rating - hope to get organised on time. Thank you so much for organising the event at National Stud !
  • Michael Keogh

To clarify. It is on - this Saturday 11-July.    I have arranged complimentary passes for all artists.  I posted the event on the 'Events' page last week and I hope I did that correct.  I look forward to seeing all interested on Saturday.

  • Norah Blount

Such a beautiful place to paint, the Iris's along the pond were stunning last year, its great that you are getting free passes as it is expensive so thank you again Michael

  • Josephine Boland

Sorry to miss the trip to the Irish National Stud. In Dublin this month but at a family wedding on Saturday. My sister works there as manager, Annettte, say hello! She'll be the one with two labradors following her around. Great painting opportunities there. Look forward to seeing the work on line.
  • Norah Blount

I hope to be free next week, any suggestions re venue around the greater Dublin area?

  • Valerie Syms Martin

Wanna come southside?  I'm not free on Tuesday or Thursday.

  • Josephine Boland

Nice day painting at Coal Harbour with Valerie today
  • Geraldine Donohoe

See y'all tomorrow am.  G xoxo

  • Valerie Syms Martin

    Hi Everyone!

This is a plea to anyone in the Dublin district who is going out plein airing who would be willing to collect me in Shankill, and bring me along with you.

I've had a knee operation and I'm recovering amazingly well and quickly.  I don't use crutches or anything else around the house.  BUT - I'm not allowed drive for another four and a half weeks, and I'm going stir crazy!

So If you are heading out and would be willing to take me, lunch would be on me!

  • Julian Reynolds

Nora is right, it's too cold at present. But Spring can suddenly appear, so we should be ready!

  • David Goldberg

Can't go on Saturday. Have visitor from China.

  • Norah Blount

Julian - thats the way these day with the weather so my bag is always under the stairs waiting and I often go out but with not enough time to post an event here so I wonder if when I go out anyone wants an email or text and feels like joining me ? I can set up a mini mid week group perhaps - and ideas welcome

  • Bernadette McCarthy

Good idea Norah.  I would like to go out mid-week.  Maybe a WhatsApp group? If not a text message would be great.

  • Valerie Syms Martin

Svetlana and I often go out midweek.  We usually post it as an event.

Waiting for better weather though.  At this time of year I do a lot of life drawing.

  • Norah Blount

The Jameson Distillery in Smithfield looks like an option, not sure if there are indoor opportunities to sketch but I will check it out

  • Valerie Syms Martin

The availability of nearby parking is an absolute must for me.

What about the Royal Hospital Kilmainham IMMA?  There's bound to be something on, there's loads of parking, a cafe, and if weather permits we can paint in the courtyard or the garden.   If the weather defeats us we can draw  down in the arched basement area.

  • Julian Reynolds

    When are you proposing?

  • Valerie Syms Martin

This Saturday we are going to the National Gallery, meeting in the cafe at 11.00am.  Architecture, sculptures and people watching.  Dry media only.  Please come.

  • Norah Blount

Imma is a great location as we met there a few years ago, any preferences for which day ? Probably too early yet to get a decent weather forecast for next week

  • Patsy Cullen

I will look forward to going on the paint outs on Saturdays if I am free. Thanks Valerie.
  • Patsy Cullen

Please let me know where the next event will be?
  • Norah Blount

I won't get out for the next month as we have our son coming home from Australia Patsy but I am sure either pebv or dublin group will post an event here.  I find it always better to check the events page around wed or thursday.

  • James Moore

I'm heading to Killiney Quarry on Killiney Hill at 12.30 today 12th May to do a watercolour of the steps area for a couple of hours  if anyone is around.
I don't have a smart phone but mobile is 0860757222

  • Plein Eire Administrator

I hope James had some company yesterday. Good to see some activity here after a long hiatus. Don't miss today's harbour paint-out, open to all artists, (Saturday 13th May) with members of Dublin Painters and Sketchers. Perhaps a few can set up a rota to propose a weekly paint-out in Dublin? There will also be a painting demonstration on ‘marine painting’ on Saturday 20th May. In addition, an artist at work on a painting, daily during the exhibition, painting critique sessions for amateur artists and exhibition guided tours. Whyte’s will be offering a painting valuation session during the club exhibition.

  • Norah Blount

Thanks James but didn't see the comment until 12. I have posted events regularly in the general area but not under any group. Places to park around Dublin can be difficult but if anyone has ideas I can host as I know people find posting an event difficult. Anyone can post an event and ask someone else to host - us that ok Tony as we often may have to cancel hosting but someone else is usually happy to be there. ,
  • Valerie Syms Martin

  • Valerie Syms Martin

Should say Saturday 17th JUNE, (not May).

  • Valerie Syms Martin

Please join me this Saturday, 1st July, at 11.00am at the Dropping Well, Milltown Rd, Rathmines Great, Dublin 6.

There are waterfalls, wonderful trees drooping over the water, a rhino (!), and bridge views both of the bridge near the pub, and the other one a little further down, which is the oldest bridge on the river Liffey.

The weather should be a bit overcast, but not wet.  Coffees and loos are available, and there is plenty of parking.

  • Valerie Syms Martin

Seems that there are too many paint-outs tomorrow, so I've postponed the Dropping Well event.

  • Karen Scannell

Please join me at Bullock Harbour this Saturday, 22nd July, at 11.00am.  The boats are all in the water now, there are great views towards Dunlaoghaire, and beautiful rock structures.

Parking shouldn't be a problem.  There are loos.  But no cafe, so bring your own liquids.  I usually bring a flask of hot water and tea bags.

Plein Air Boyne Valley, Northsiders, Uncle Tom Cobly and all are welcome to join us!

  • Valerie Syms Martin

    Please join me for a paint-out in Greystones Harbour, on 26th August 2017 at 11.30am - 4.00pm.

The weather should be good.  Loos, lunch and parking available at the pub.

It'd be great to see a few new faces out!

  • Karen Scannell

Geraldine Donohoe sent us this message today : Nancy Gillespie has asked me if you would kindly post on the Plein Air Sites that she would like to sincerely thank everyone from the Plein Air community who sent wonderful messages of condolence and support and all who were in attendance at Terence's Funeral Service. Nancy would also like a special thank you to Michael Keogh for organising the Paint Out in The National Stud in Terence's memory and to all who participated.
  • Geraldine Donohoe

Thank you Karen. Still trying to negotiate this site
  • Valerie Syms Martin

We had seven painters in Greystones yesterday.  Brilliant considering the short warning!  Catriona, Wendy, Denise, Paula, Svetlans, Brian & myself.  The weather was good, and a kind lady, Caroline Hughes, made us cups of coffee.  She and her husband Alan are interested in joining in on further excursions.

  • Valerie Syms Martin

Meant Helen - not Wendy!   Oops!

Sean Quinn has posted about a paint pout in Malahide Castle, on Monday 23rd October.   Meet at the Avoca cafe.

At the very tail end of a fantastic week in Venice I caught a bug that has turned into a chest infection.  I'll have to see what state I'll be in on Monday, but I painted there in the Summer and it is a good spot.

  • Norah Blount

Meeting in Howth this sat May 5th, see events for info
