The twelfth 'Art in the Open' - an international plein air painting festival of paint-outs, workshops, exhibition and good company. The annual August event is open to all and attracts visitors from Europe, USA and all of Ireland to Wexford in the sunny south-east.
PAINT ANNAPOLIS is taking place this weekend. A similar event to Art in the Open, this event in Maryland USA has been in existence for several years now. It is of particular interest to Art in the Open because Wexford and Annapolis are twinned towns and because of the visit of artist, David Diaz to our event this year.
David is currently chairman of Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association (MAPAPA) and a great ambassador for both Annapolis and Wexford events. One of David's paintings is being presented to the mayor of Wexford, and similarly, a painting from Art in the Open is being brought back to present to the City of Annapolis as a friendship gesture.
I'll be traveling from Georgia in the US to Art in the Open! I will arrive in Wexford on July 26 (Tues.) and hope to paint with some of the local artists! I am looking forward to the visit.... I have never been to Ireland. It has been a dream of mine to do so!
Great job on the brochure by Kevin Freeney. The whole event looks like it will be an exciting one. Even more seems to be happening than last year - such as the 3 free street demonstrations and more social things happening in the evenings. And who will be bringing along a painting to the art critique?
You are going to need some volunteers to put all this on....any offers from Plein Eire members ?
Just had a 'sticky beak' at some of the artists who are already signed up to come and its an impressive list.
Enniscorthy, Friday 29th July is the location for the launch of Art in the Open 2011.
If you've already registered online, bring your canvas or paper to the 1798 Centre for stamping and receive your welcome pack. There's even a free coffee and scone waiting for you before 11am.
Californian artist Paul Strahm, who travelled with his wife Denise to take part in Art in the Open 2011, has returned to the USA to prepare this exhibition about his Irish journey.
That's great news, Midge. Glad to meet you then. The eagerly awaited www.artintheopen.org festival website should go 'live' early next week (just dotting a few 'i's and crossing some 't's to the programme) and you will be able to see the line-up for what should be a great event.
