Artists from the general Boyne Valley area (roughly Armagh, Monaghan, Cavan, Westmeath, Meath, Louth) who wish to come together to paint. All abilities are welcome.
oops I need to re-post as I accidentally pressed delete!
Hi Boyne Valley plein air people!
Last January or thereabouts we said at the pub that day that you will all be welcome to come in turn for a self catering couple of days in our newly done up chalets?
We are now delighted to welcome you all to sunny South Wexford where the scenery starts on the doorstep of our farmhouse. You can check out the townland on Google Maps , its called Reedstown, southeast of Tacumshane, in between Lady's Island Lake and Lake Tacumshane. It's a short 25 minute walk down the fields onto Rostoonstown Strand on the southern coast of Wexford. All you hardy folk, don't even think of swimming on the local beach, we have been warned its not safe for swimmers. But its very beautiful in a wild sort of way, bring sturdy walking boots if you want to stroll there.
It's first come first served, subject to availability. We are offering this free of charge to our Boyne Valley friends, as a once off at the least. Already we have some commercial bookings . Not all the tariffs have been set, but any commercial bookings by our artist friends will be at a 20% discount.
There are two apartments one small one large. At time of writing only the large apartment is ready for use.
The smaller apartment or the two could comfortably accommodate two people; three with the fold-out futon.
The larger apartment will easily sleep three in one room; and could sleep one or two extra persons if we use the sofa bed in the living area, what do you think?
Both apartments have electric cooker, microwave, fridge, washing machine. Please email jm2833530@gmail.com for further details and to make any suggestions you can think of. If you have a Google email address, you will also have Google calendar, which I may use to show available dates.
There may be a few utensils etc., we have overlooked to provide, and we will appreciate your comments in this regard.
Also encouraged are any other suggestions you might want us to consider.
Don't forget your paints. The weather here tends to be a little drier, warmer and sunnier than further north. You could tie in with the SEPA paint-outs as well, where you can meet the other painters. Their activities are posted up on the pleineire website. So there you are, figure out when might suit you, and we hope to see you all in turn soon!
Carla and I spent two days in the large chalet doing a test run as it were. It is very well appointed and comfortable. Once a few adjustments are made it will be really nice. We are going back for the AITO Workshops and probably the Open itself.
We were lucky with weather as it was a balmy day which we spent out in the fields painting. I think it can be quite windy there though. So go prepared to paint and be a bit windswept. I will post one of the paintings I did there later.
I think of you all as you paint out in all those lovely locations, and I was sorry to miss the Summer BV Exhibition. I am still not out of the woods, but look forward to joining the group again asap..... when I am back on my feet. Very best of luck to Valerie with your new knee.
VALERIE I hope u make a speedy recovery from your op you will have even more enthusiasm for your plein air activities best wishes from all fellow artists.
I'm coming home on Sunday. Had enough bed rest and I've healed up well. I'm not allowed to drive for another four weeks, but will happily accompany people for plein air or life drawing if I can get lifts.
Welcome to Boyne Valley Jessica. We look forward to meeting you. We meet pretty well every Saturday. The weather has been so bad this winter that instead of freezing in the elements we visited exhibitions or museums etc. Next week we may be going to Listoke Gardens outside Drogheda to paint AND to have a look at an exhibition of a collection of Countess Markievicz's drawings. So watch this space.
I was so sorry to see the death of Rhoda last night on my facebook. She was such a nice woman and we had many happy days painting and coffee. It really is so upsetting as she was such a young woman.
So very sorry and sad to hear the news. An absolutely beautiful person, who we had great times with, and a lovely painter. She will be missed. My sympathies to her family.
I'm so sad to hear the news. Last time I saw Rhoda was at the little old pier at Carna where we both were painting last year. We had been there with the gang for the previous few days and I had some very interesting chats with Rhoda about our experiences of the Gaelic language. Rest In Peace Rhoda.
Very sad news and I see in a beautiful moving tribute, Tony has featured 5 of her paintings in the Gallery section. I had a look and was quite pleased to see that with my comments I had engaged with Rhoda and expressed to her, my appreciation of her art.
Hi guys.this weeks paintout is in and around the fabulous grounds of the snail box kilmoon cross co meath.were meeting up at a later time than normal ,due to the snail box only opening at noon. (Noon meet up time ) a week back the wheat fields were good and golden, the Panamamic views were misty blue, the cattle and livestock busy feeding and the country lanes begging to be painted....what more could you ask for.?? (Sorry I'm posting this msg here as I'm presently in sweet donegal and my phone and lack of wifi won't let me post it into events) if any of you guys in BV PE could copy and paste into events, for this sat, would be fab.see you all there at noon.pg.best regards dee ....
Love, love LOVE this place, so I'm going back again this Thursday (tomorrow). The weather is due to be wet this weekend, so I'm taking my chance to stay dry. I'll be in there by 11.00am, so my mobile is 087 9905275.
Allotments, walled garden, fruit ( and you can pick the autumn raspberries), vegetables, fountain, flower beds. Yada, yada. Everyone there is so friendly.
The horses are on their holliers, so no stables for the next two weeks.
N11 to just south of Bray. Go towards Bray and turn right at the traffic lights into Old Connaught Road. Festina Lente is on the right at the top. They have a sandwich board outside.
Sad to report the news that our friend Terence Gillespie died in hospital on Thursday. Living in Leighlinbridge, Co. Carlow, he sometimes would have painted with members for BVPE and Dublin PE.
He was a quiet man and a true gentleman who loved company and painting and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him and especially his dear wife, Nancy.
Terence's funeral service in celebration of his life will be held in St Laserian's Cathedral, Old Leighlin, Co. Carlow. Wednesday 28th at 12pm.
Terence is very fondly remembered by myself and others in the Boyne Valley Group. A truly lovely gentle gentleman, who loved painting and company. My sympathy to his wife and family.
Geraldine Donohoe sent us this message today : Nancy Gillespie has asked me if you would kindly post on the Plein Air Sites that she would like to sincerely thank everyone from the Plein Air community who sent wonderful messages of condolence and support and all who were in attendance at Terence's Funeral Service. Nancy would also like a special thank you to Michael Keogh for organising the Paint Out in The National Stud in Terence's memory and to all who participated.
