I thought I had joined Dublin last month? Eh? Well I didn't get any postings from BVPE and went to Skerries in the rain. Can't understand why no postings came in to my computer?

Mornin' David.  We're very glad to have you as a signed-up member of PEBV.  Hope you don't really regret your trip to Skerries yesterday.  The 'Air' can be just as 'Plein' whatever group you're with.  While PEBV covers the Boyne Valley we do loose the hard edges now and then and drift into Dublin and elsewhere now and then.

Very good turn out to "Schoolhouse For Art" in Enniskerry on Sat, 12 artists, even tho' the weather was un-promising - and remained so! Above scene from "deep behind enemy lines" (-you know where!) - where I was given up for as "lost in action" as afternoon progressed!

I'm going to suggest the Iveagh Gardens again for First-Sat-Oct paint-out, as I put a v positive spin on attendance at August's outing there (good to know you were all at AITO in Wexfrd!) and for Oct & Nov we should perhaps try and catch autumnal colours- Stephen's Green nearby too. If you have any other suggestions, now's the time to speak up! - JOF

Lovely work John, well worth the foraging!

Central Dublin sounds great for next outing. Hoping my knees wil be up to it by then. I'm off to Tunisia for a week of rest and painting and to suss out some good locations for a plein air expedition next year! All the best for now...

  • john o'flynn

Inez-Keep us posted on Tunisia paint-outs! -Keep well - JOF

  • Inez Nordell

Absolutely will John, I'll post some stuff when I get back.

All the best to you, Inez

So sorry to miss last Saturday, and glad there was a good attendance in Enniskerry John. Thank you Inez re.comment on our Borrowers/ furry-unfriendlies...the plug-ins seem to work! Very much hope to see you all in Iveagh Gardens on October 5th.
  • Inez Nordell

Glad they worked for you Carole, See you on the 5th!

    Hi all,

A bit late again but it seemed a bit in-opportune making a posting while it was raining so heavily all week...as with Irish weather, one mood doesn't last too long and its clearing...maybe Sat will be good after all...ok if we return to Iveagh Gardens, meet in O'Briens Cafe. adj to Kennedy's art shop on Harcourt St, rounc 11 for 11.30 start?

    Best- John O F

(ps: parking is free on Sat on streets marked yellow in map below - ie other side Baggot & Leeson St bridges)

  • Denise Kevany

Hope to be there, weather permitting!

Hi all, The weather forecast for next Saturday  (First Saturday November paint out) is  for continuous rain and  wind. Sunday's forecast is better.

Proposing the paint out is transferred to Sunday 3rd.

    Venue Charlemont Bridge.

Meet in Barge Pub, between 11.00 am and 11.30 am. Pub opens at 11.00.  There is painting at Charlemont , on the canal towards Leeson St Bridge and towards Rathmines/Portobello. Both are quite close.

John O'Flynn is not available so I will act as co-ordinator.

  • Julia Yakub

Sunday is good for me. Great location. I will try to be there.

  • Valerie Syms Martin

    Weather permitting, I'll be there.

  • Carole Ann Margaret Cullen

Hope to come along Tom,painted at same venue with Henry Healy over 30 years ago !
  • cora walker

Hope to get there, weather permitting.

  • Tom Scott

A successful paint out was held in sunshine last Sunday , along the canal at Charlemont.

Sunday was chosen  because of the poor weather forecast for the traditional 'first' Saturday and with such a good turn-out it is an option, in similar circumstances, for the future.

  • Valerie Syms Martin

And you had brilliant weather too!

I ended up cooking for and hosting a lunch party.  Enjoyable, but I was looking outside at the beautiful if chilly weather and wishing I could be with you too.

  • Carole Ann Margaret Cullen

oh so sorry I missed it Tom, I would prefer Sundays........
  • cora walker

Hi all, finally getting round to painting the canal!! Here are some pics I took that day.

Sunday suits me much better for paint outs, does anyone else prefer it?

  • Julia Yakub

    I like Sundays too.

  • Valerie Syms Martin

Saturday is better for me.  I've family comittments on Sundays.

  • john o'flynn

    Hi!

Good to see discussion on Sat/Sun etc - people are engaging! I've signed up for People's Art on Stephen's Gr, 6,7,8 Dec so would like not to have to peel off and do Plein Eire Sat 7/12 - and Tom S & JohnMcM who've stood in before are otherwise occupied that Sat - would anyone else like to organise it? Feel free to experiement with format etc, as Sunday worked well last time...Tks - John O F

    Hi All,

WE have permission to paint in Powerscourt Gardens this Saturday.  There are beautiful formal gardens with views towards the Sugarloaf.  The entrance fee to the gardens is at the group rate of €5.45.  We will meet in the cafe at 11.00am to have a chat first.

Be sure to dress up warmly - plenty of layers.

  • Norah Blount

Cant make it this weekend Valerie, did you also put your meeting point up on the events page as its easy to miss otherwise.  Hope you have a great days painting - Powerscourt is such a lovely place and if I remember correctly the coffee shop does great cakes

  • Valerie Syms Martin

    Thanks for the hint Nora!

  • Geraldine Donohoe

Sorry I can't make it this Saturday but hope you have a great day out.  May I take this opportunity to wish all the group a very Happy Christmas and New Year.....  see you all in January hopefully

  • cora walker

    Hope to get there Valerie!
  • Denise Kevany

Hi Valerie, hope to be there
  • Bernadette McCarthy

Thanks for that Valerie.  Unfortunately I will not be able to attend.

Plein Eire Dubliners - Seasons Greetings!

Its recently become very apparent to me that I have too many "balls-in-the-air", and enjoyable as juggling all of them may be, that I have to, at least temporarily, retire which ever ones I can. I haven't really participated in any of PEDublin's regular "first Sat/Sun of the month" paint-outs since June, and I can't make the next one either (perhaps in Botanic Gdns as has become the norm for January)! (Indeed I didn't get an opportunity to paint Dublin in autumnal colors once this year – arguably Dublin’s best "clothing"!). So I think I should retire from taking lead in organising PEDub "first Sat/Sun" paint-outs, and hand-over whom-so-ever wishes to step into the breach. I was going wait until that person was "in-situ" but I think I can wait no longer! ….Any takers?!….

    Best

I've been very lax at attending paint-outs, but I agree with John's suggestion of the Botanic Gardens. Is that Saturday 4th or Sunday 5th?

    Best, Julian Reynolds

  • Valerie Syms Martin

I'll take over for a while if you like.

I've emailed Brendan Sayers in the National Botanic Gardens for permission to paint there next Saturday.  No reply as yet.

Assuming they have no objections we will meet up in the cafe in the Botanic Garden at 11.00am.  If the weather is bad we can retreat into the glass houses.  The one beside the cafe has lovely plants in it, and the Palm House is always good.

But I've just bought fingerless gloves, so I'll probably paint out of doors.  Wrap up very warmly, and maybe bring a flask of something hot.

If you are in a glass house, please ensure that you are not in the way of wheelchairs or child buggys, and don't tread on any plants or flower beds.  I know all this is obvious, but they are particular about ensuring that any groups they permit in do not infringe on other visitors to the Gardens.

  • Plein Eire Administrator

It is great that Valerie is offering to step into the breach. But maybe there is also an opportunity here for the group to grow a little if members were to offer to take responsibility for one meeting each by suggesting a location to paint and a place to meet up for coffee. Who knows, you may find once a month just isn't enough for all the great places waiting to be painted. Or perhaps, once a fortnight a Sunday paint-out may suit some who can't manage a Saturday? You can use this forum to post your suggestions for paint-outs and to volunteer to play 'host' for the day.

May I take this opportunity to say a big 'thanks' on behalf of the site and Plein Eire Dublin to John O'Flynn for getting the whole thing started. It has been a great success and become the biggest group on the site. Well done, John!

  • Frank Hallinan Flood

Botanic Gardens sounds great! Looking forward to getting out painting again!

  • Valerie Syms Martin

    Good stuff!

  • Norah Blount

Would love to make it this sat but cant, would be free to host a paint-out but would have to be on sundays ! Good idea to share the hosting as it is a big comittment for one person

  • Michael Keogh

I am sure I can arrange an outing to the Irish National Stud again this year if you think it might be suitable. Perhaps May or June.  The M7 Motorway makes it very accessible and I would be happy to host the day.

  • Valerie Syms Martin

    Brilliant Michael!

  • john o'flynn

    Hi all,

Good to see that the baton is being carried forth! I'll continue to keep an eye on development of PEDublin's program, and I am sure to get a chance to join in from time to time…I just have to concentrate on the "day-job" for a little while…but I look fwd to catching up with you all soon again….!

    Best - JOF

  • Jean English

Hi there ... might just be able to join you... I sure hope so. Depends on what's waiting for me when I head back to Dublin....

  • Valerie Syms Martin

About twelve of us arrived at different times over the morning.  It was good to meet up with visitors  from the Boyne Valley Group.  Welcome Pat Holton and Frank Hallinan Flood.

The weather was kind - not a cloud in the sky.  It was a bit on the chilly side, but pretty good for January.

Thanks to all who came - and see you next month!

Hi- just keeping in touch! I was visiting friends in West Cork, after New Year's, and managed to these two - between the v dramatic storms - on "first-Sat" in Jan 2014…Best- JOF

  • Frank Hallinan Flood

Great sense of drama in these John. Well caught!

  • Jean English

I wrote on this yesterday but it seems to have disappeared to God knows where!

I was glad to have been part of the paint out in the Botanical gardens ... thanks Valerie for organizing it. Since I was late arriving I didn't get to meet too many people... and didn't see so many after either in the cafe but the location and weather was great and the day cheered me up greatly. Also, managed to get a painting done . Hope there are others on a Saturday as Sunday doesn't suit me at present.
