I had a great time in the Japanese Garden yesterday.  A big "Thank You" to Michael Keogh for arranging it!Japanese%20Gardens%20Artwork.%204th%20May%202013%20003.JPG

This is a watercolour 16" X 12".  It is the second piece I did yesterday and it is not quite finished.

Lovely day out y'day at Nat Stud/St Fiacra's Gdns/Japanese Gdns - 21 attended and weather held up - tho' sun shone more later in the day; beautiful location, enough space for everyone to have privacy and lots of choice of subject matter. Thank very much to Michael K for inviting us down to his neck of the woods and looking after us so well - John O F

Thanks to you John for encouraging so many to make the trip into the country!  I also take the opportunity to thank Irish Stud Manager John Osborne for so graciously allowing us be welcomed by management. No doubt we added ambience to the fabulous facilities!  - MK

It was a great day for painting on saturday.  Many thanks to Michael for arranging the venue and to John for all his organisation.  I look forward to next month.

Where are we off to in June?

  • john o'flynn

    Hi y'awl

Sorry about late notice again, but I felt I had to check with venue first- which delayed me a bit. I've taken up Barbara OMeara's suggestion to go to her neck of the woods to Festina Lente in Bray, an equastrian centre and gardens. Above is a map showing its relation to Bray Dart & M11(J5). www.festinalente.ie/- no smoking in gardens, & bring your rubbish home are only notes from management. Meet c11.00 for 11.30 start? Hope you can make it! - Best - John o Flynn/087 2709097

  • Barbara O'Meara

    Hi John,

As discussed with you at last  Plein Eire meetup  you asked me check out Festina Lente.  Just to let people know there is no coffee shop but there is Tea and Coffee Machine in a small shop.

    Barbara

  • john o'flynn

Tks, Barbara - I think weather forecast is v good so perhaps this is an ideal occassion to have a picnic outdoors?! So anyone who can please bring along an extra folding stool etc and I'll bring some biscuits and we can sit around and have a chat! - best - JOHN O F

Good turn out today Ticknock at Festina Lente near Bray- weather held up; a very pleasant relaxed venue. (Tks Valerie for posintg photos).

Here's a few other possible locations for later Paint-Outs: anymore suggestions? any preferences? - JOF

    Kilruddery, Bray

    Laragh

    Ashford

    Enniskerry (not Powerscourt-private)

    People’s Park D Laoire

    Glenmascole, Tallaght

    Upper Dodder Park

Red Stables, St Anne’s Park, Raheny

    Iveagh Gardens

    Liffey Quays around Smock Alley

    .....

  • john o'flynn

PS:"Ticknock" should not be in the first line in the previous posting - it should be in the list of possible locations below it! - JOF

  • Valerie Syms Martin

I've been back to Festina Lente twice since our Plein Eire day there.  They are so lovely and welcoming.  Various people tip me off about what horses will be out and which ones will be in the stables.  Today someone intervened when he saw me begin to do a study, as the horse I was about to do the study of was going to disappear off and do a bit of work.

This place is only about two miles from where I live, and I'd no idea it was there!

So - A HUGE thanks to Barbara for suggesting it as a venue!!

  • Valerie Syms Martin

What about Bullock Harbour?  No café but there are loos.

  • john o'flynn

    Hi!

We'll take up Valerie's suggestion for next "First-Sat" (06/07) paint out : Bullock Harbour, in Dalkey, ok! Meet at 11 for 11.30 start. (Glenageary or Dalkey DART). Valerie will host this time as I am away!

    Happy painting!- JOHN O F

  • Valerie Syms Martin

About twelve artists were painting away in the glorious sunshine at Bullock Harbour last Saturday.   There was tons going on - comings and goings.  Fishermen, people buying their supper, canoes, glittering water, and more.  The people renting boats had erected colourful umbrellas as a sunscreen.  Brilliant day.Bullock%20Harbour.%20Plein%20Eire%20Paintout.%206th%20July%202013%2...Bullock%20Harbour.%20Plein%20Eire%20Paintout.%206th%20July%202013%2...Art%20work.%206th%20July%202013%20003.JPG

  • Valerie Syms Martin

And on the way home I came across a lone artist in Coliemore Harbour.  He'd gone to the wrong harbour and wondered where the rest of us were.

    Hi Plein Eire Dubliners!

I have an exhibition running till Aug 2 at Malahide Library - mostly small plein air works, and a few nudes and portraits. Don't go all the way especially (you can catch the work another time!) but if you are in the area, feel free to call in...

    Best

  • john o'flynn

    Hi,

Due to my exhibition (mentioned below) I'm obliged to stay around Dublin till I take it down on Aug 2, and I've had a busy few weeks, so I am not minded to dash off to AITO immediately afterwards. So I'll be around Dublin for "First-Sat" paint-out day (Aug 3) : For the moment I'll nominate Iveagh Gardens, Earlsfort Tce as the location - as (1) I've never been there! & (2) I want to go back to attempt Newman's Chapel again after making a hash of it last Sun (!) and (3) perhaps a gardened urban location (which might include Stephen's Green) may ba a counterpoint to the further flung venues we've gone to in recent months. Since attendance may be low (due to AITO) please let me know if this suits or if those who do intend to come along would prefer another location (I'll confirm details in any case early next week). - Best - JOHN O F

  • john o'flynn

    Hi all!

Since there's hasn't been a clamour of alternative suggestions, can I confirm that PEDub will go to Iveagh Gardens/Stephen's Green for "First-Sat" (Aug) paint-out, tomorrow, Sat 03/08...for some sunny(!?) urban painting! Shall we meet in O'Briens cafe on Harcourt St, (adjacent to Kennedy's Art Shop), at c11.00 for 11.30 start? The nearest free parking is on the side-streets on the other side of Baggot St Bridge (marked yello in map above). So anyone who isn't at AITO, please come along!

Look fwd to seeing you! - John O Flynn/087 2709097

  • john o'flynn

Not a bad turn out y'day for Iveagh Gdns/Stephen's Green!

I am going to pencil in Enniskerry for Sept's "First-Sat" paint-out (07/09) as a colleague has taken a temporary lease on the old school house in the centre of the village to see if he can run it as an art-centre, and he would like to host us. But ifanyone has any other suggestions - please speak up! - Happy painting! (preferably outdoor!) - John O Flynn

  • Carole Ann Margaret Cullen

looking forward to joining you all in Old Schoolhouse Enniskerry on 7th September
  • Etain Feeley

    Count me in to.

  • Gerri McCaffery

Hi All,  I'm fairly new to Plein Air (I have mostly been doing animal portraits).  I was at AITO in Wexford and loved it.  I might be away in September but would love to join in at the next one.

  • Michael Molloy

Hi, can anyone tell me when the next scheduled outing is and where/time to meet? Thanks
  • Norah Blount

  • kevin jones

Looking forward to joining you in Enniskerry.

  • Bea Jordan

    Hi All
Im really looking forward to joining my first paint out with the group.
  • john o'flynn

So we'll head to Enniskerry this Sat, 07/09! We'll meet in Old Schoolhouse, in centre of village around 11am. No 44 bus stops just outside, and 185 serves village from Bray DART. (I'm going to cycle from Dart so sorry I can't offer car-share!). I'll investigate further this week the situation with painting in Powerscourt to see if any individuals can work within their (v. severe) restrictions- I'll let you know of any positive outcomes...JOF/087 2709097

  • Inez Nordell

Hoping to make this outing John, look forward t catching up with you.

  • Valerie Syms Martin

I'm sorry - I can't make it.  It's our parish fete day and I help run the bookstall.  And buy most of my Christmas presents there.

  • Denise Kevany

I hope to make it on Saturday.
  • Bernadette McCarthy

I look forward to Enniskerry on Saturday.  See you then.

  • Michael Molloy

Hi, looking forward to joining the group on Saturday as well, for the first time. Michael.
  • Inez Nordell

    Hi John,

Sad to say I won't be able to go along to Enniskerry tomorrow. I've injured my knee and am not too mobile. Have a great day , hope the weather is in your favour. Inez

  • john o'flynn

Inez-sorry to hear-I'd offer you a lift but I'm going to Dart/bike it - for the sake of my knees - & heart & lungs - long term! Praps someone else might give you a lift and you can just sit in village centre and paint...Do get well soon...- JOF

  • Inez Nordell

Thanks John, good idea but really walking at all is a struggle at the moment. Hope it will ease in a couple of days. Enjoy the day out!

  • Bea Jordan

    Hi John
Is it going ahead today in Enniskerry. Its lashing here in Naas.
  • Carole Ann Margaret Cullen

Whoops sorry won't be coming today as we seem to have mice in the skirting boards in our bedroom....the scratching sounds like a 5 * hailstorm at 4 am. So that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it ! Hope you have a great day. Do those plug in mouse repellers work ?
  • Inez Nordell

Yes Carole they do work! had an infestation a couple of years ago. I have them all over the house and they act as a good deterrent!
