    Hi all,

Only I turned up for Dec Paint-Out, but I persevered and got something done. Keeping going thru the winter makes the spring and summer all the sweeter when they come!

Anyway, lets keep going, The next first Sat is Jan 1, so why dont we on this occasion say Sat Jan8th, at same place, Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin, Courtyard Cafe? Lwt me know what you think!

Incredible painting John! A great record of the inclement weather we have had! Looking forward to the meeting in Jan.2011!

Thank you for the reminder John. Hope to be there.
  • David Bagnall

Thanks for the note. Looking forward to a bit of extreme painting.

Happy New Year John, I hope to join you  but i will be late because of other commitments.
  • Valerie Syms Martin

Looking forward to joining you on some paintouts.

Brave, brave people painting out of doors at this time of year!

  • john o'flynn

    Hi all,

Four painters brave the elements last Sat, Jan 8th, to keep the flag of Plein Eire Dublin Group flying! It wasn't that bad- particularly as one could take the option of painting in the glass houses!

Next outing Sat Feb 5th, again within easy reach of a refuge - Phoenix Park Visitors Centre at Ashford Castle.

When I started this group I envisioned us going anywhere from Greystones to Skerries, not having to stay central to accomodate people coming from all directions; that accomodation will come about from rotating North, South (& West) locations month by month. I know the coast north from Dublin fairly well, but if anyone wants to take the baton and lead us south, feel free to do so - the only prerequisites are scenic location and a coffee shop!

    Happy pinting!

    "Happy pinting!"

I'm undecided about whether or not that was a tyop!

  • Mary O' Carroll

I enjoyed the session at the Botanic Gdns. last Saturday John. There were some incredible views, both inside and outside! So much choice! I love trees in winter. Also it is not crowded at the moment. Hope we can make another visit there in the near future!
  • Caroline Carroll

Would love to do some outdoor painting on Saturdays, which suit me better, north or south dublin. Anyone any suggestions.  Karen is doing paintout this sunday in Carlow, but it doesnt suit me.

  • Maire Morrissey-Cummins

Hi, I live in Greystones, Co. Wicklow. I used to paint a lot from 1990's to 1996 when I lived in Holland. I did mainly watercolour at the time with a group of artists in North Holland and I loved it. I stopped painting because of work commitments. I have since returned to live in Ireland and stopped working. I would like to get back to painting, I would love to do acrylics but I am not sure where to start. I have time during the day but can't get motivated on my own. Maire
  • deirdre moriarty

Hi Caroline i would to join you some Saturdays for Plein air painting. I live in Clonskeagh. Sometimes i paint on my own but it is a bit scary especially when you are away in 'Paint land'.
  • Valerie Syms Martin

I'm in Shankill.  I like painting on my own but also in groups.  We could meet up...
  • Maire Morrissey-Cummins

    Valerie,

That sounds good to me. I have not been painting for a while but want to get back to it. my email is uemailme@eircom.net - I live in Greystones most of the time but my husband works abroad, travelling so we have a base in Germany. I will be leaving for the month of April to stay with him in Germany and to visit my daughter in Madrid. May would be best for me to meet up if you don't mind me taking such a long time or I could meet you next week for a coffee and chat? I am not working now so am available depending when you are available:)) Maire

  • Maire Morrissey-Cummins

Deirdre, I am not sure if you meant that comment for me or not, but it came to my email. The only time I am not available is weekends as my husband travels for his work and comes home most weekends. I am not working any more so I am available during the week. I leave right at the beach in Greystones. We could walk to the beach with our gear and paint in a quiet area if you would like sometime when the weather gets a bit warmer. I am going away for a month to my other life in Germany but would love to meet up in May? I put my emails address on my reply to Valerie.:)) Maire
  • Mary O' Carroll

Hi Maire I am also available during the week, except Wednesdays.  I live near the city centre and I can DART out to Greystones.  My Sundays are occupied with the Dublin Sketchers and I would love to try and get in some  painting practice now that the weather is improving.

Hi, all Plien Eire Dublin members,

Sorry for not reporting on last First-Sat-Of-Month (March) Paint Out sooner: I couldn't find any other painters at Ashtown Castle, Phoenix Park, when I arrived at 11.50, I hung around cafe & car park till 12.30 before going off & finding a scene near the Aras gates to paint; tho' initially promising the weather didn't pick up and it remained a dull day. Someone did report to me she found two painters about at around 2.30pm so perhaps its just that we didn't meet up!

Anyway on to next First-Sat-of-Month (April) Paint Out and I have been asked by the Dublin Painting & Sketching Club to postpone our event till the following, the second, Sat, April 9th, to coincide with a Paint Out they are organising at Sandycove, in conjunction with their Annual Exhibition in Dun Laoire Town Hall. Some folks are members of both DPSC & Plein Eire Dublin, and it might make the event more enjoyable if we combine forces. I hope you agree. There is no convenient coffee shop to meet at, but if we have the numbers, and the weather entices more painters out in April, we should be able to find each other in the vicinity of the promontory. If not my mobile is 087 2709097. Meet at 11.30 for a 12 noon start?

Hi all,  I am organising the 'Plein Air' session during th DPSC exhibition. As John has mentioned a number of people are in both so I thought it would be good idea to get together for this session and mentioned it to John. Also there are a number of members of the DPSC who have expressed a wish to join up with the 'Plein Air' on their   monthly outings so this would provide an opportunity to make the link and swell the ranks of the Dublin 'Plein Air' group. Hope as many as possible can make it to Sandycove. As John says there is no nearby cafe to meet but we can repair to one after the painting for a chat. Best wishes, Tom Scott

(Reply to Kevin Freeny re suggestion for joint SEPA +  Plein Eire Dublin Paint-Out to Glendalough in late May/early June)
    Kevin,
I have just announced our first-sat-of-month-May paint-out for Clontarf. I was then going to throw it open to other Dublin members to choose a southside non-central location for the subsequent paint-out, the intention being to alternate northside/southside every second month or rotate northside/westside/southside every third month, at least during the fine weather, perhaps reverting to central locations for the winter; in addition I was going to ask members to take charge of paint-outs to their locality, by nominating a location and a coffee shop. Glendalough fits in with this scheme for the regular first-sat-of-month-June paint-out. Someone did ask for greater frequency during the summer - perhaps fortnightly - perhaps midweek - but that might be "jumping the gun" - as I dont think we really had too many Plein Eire Dublin members in Sandycove last week, more DPSC members. Perhaps first-sat-of-month-June in Glendalough would be best -lets see if we get any feedback to that suggestion.
    Regards
    JOHN O FLYNN

Hi John, first-sat-of-month-June in Glendalough sound very good to me -a little far for me but as I've missed so many paint-outs I reckon it will be worth the effort. Hope it works out for everyone.

By the way, I think that is the beginning of the Bank Holiday W/E.

    Best wishes,

    Sally Downey

  • john o'flynn

    Sally,

Thanks for pointing out that it would be the Bank Hol weekend - I'll be around - but would it lead to lower attendance ? - should we put it back to second weekend?

    Best

    JOHN O FLYNN

  • Sally Downey

    Hi John,

As far as I'm concerned a bank holiday is the same as any other day. However, the world and his mother is liable to be hosteling, camping, visiting etc. Glendalough for the June B.Hol. You'll know best how to judge the responses from the other members as to whether it will effect the attendance. I'm sure you'll make the right decision anyway.

    Best wishes

    Sally,

  • john o'flynn

SEPA ( South East Plein Air) has suggested we meet them Sat/Sun 11/12 June in Glendalough, as they are out painting otherwise on Sun 5 & Sun 19 - you can see Sunday is their day so Sun 12 June is their preferred option - as well they want to ask along Dublin Sketchers - who day out is a Sunday too.

    Hi all,

After seeing Dierdre M's pochade box at Sandycove, and with a foreign weekend imminent, I thought I'd try and make one myself for 1) cheapness, 2) speed of delivery, 3) customisable to: a) my standard small size (12x10"); b) hold full size oil brushes; c) clip onto my sketching easel: I'm mightily pleased with the result! Field trials yet to take place! Tho' timbers cut & routed cost €24, all told, with clips, strap etc., cost came to about €70. Anyone who wishes to build one for themselves let me know.....

    Best,  JOHN O F

Left to right - Andrew, Sheelagh, John & Tom - not the most flattering of pics of everyone - but evidence that four did meet - and I may hasten to add - paint outdoors last Sat May 7 at Bull Island for Plein Eire Dublin's regular first Sat-of Month Paint Out. Just a notice that for next month's Paint Out we will rendevous with South East Plein Eire group at Glendalough on Sun 12 June - rendevous point & time to be confirmed.

    Happy painting!

As mentioned earlier, Plein Eire Dublin's June's Paint out will be on Sun 12 June at Glendalough to coincide with SputhEast Plein Eire's meeting there. Kevin from SEPA advises "So we will meet at the Visitor Centre from 11 to 11.30ish. Here is my number for updates on the day, 087 6781362"

In case anyone wants a lift or to car-pool, my conntact details are 087 2709097/ joflynn@eircom.net

Hope you can make it - JOHN O FLYNN, D13

  • Sally Downey

Fraid I wont be able to make it John. Im sure you'll have a great day.
  • Caroline Carroll

Sorry I can't make it. Hope you all have a good time in Glendalough and that weather holds! Happy painting! Hopefully I can make next one.
  • Norah Blount

Missed this on the events posting but hope to  make it this time as have a few free weekends coming up !
  • john o'flynn

Sad to relate tomorrow, Sun, June 12 Paint Out at Glendalough has been postponed due to bad weather forecast. Above is a pic of one of my own set-ups in Donegal on a recent week in which I managed to get some work done - despite the gales - and brough back the flu with me as well! Hopefully we can arrange another joint SEPA-Dublin Plein Eire outing over the "summer" - in the meantime does anyone have suggestions for the next Dublin Plein Eire regular First-Sat-Month Paint Out (June 2)? Somewhere south of the river would seem to suggest itself, as we went north in May; anyone with a suggestion can "host" it by nominating a meeting spot and ensuring there is a cafe/hostelry nearby.

    Till next time!

    JOHN O FLYNN

  • john o'flynn

    Hi all,

This is my effort from last Sun PaintOut at Glendalough - beautiful day! As I'm still recovering from flu after my painting week in Donegal in May I wasn't able to linger and meet up for coffee etc afterwards - so I don't know how many from PleinEireDublin made it down to Glendalough.

Unfortunately - due to my not being on the ball with flu - my wife slipped by me another event on tomorrow Sat July 2nd - so I am not able to arrange our regular First-Sat-Of-Month paint out for July- sorry - so next outing Sat 6 Aug - or is that too early after Art in the Open Festival the previous holiday weekend?

That's a beautiful representation of the peace that must have been in Glendalough.  Very sorry to hear you're not so well. Please god the sunny days to come will sort you out.
  • James Moore

Hope you get better soon John. Very nice painting.
  • Caroline Carroll

A beautiful painting, weather looks fantastic in it.  When is the first Sat of the month paint out, and where.  If we keep getting weather like this, I will be there.  Sorry to hear you got a flu out of it.
  • Mary Quinn

Best wishes John, you must be so pleased with that painting, it is so right and pleasing in every way.  Hope you feel better very soon.  Mary

Love your painting John, especially the slope of the land, and of course your Audience! Hope your health improves, one cannot waste this lovely weather!

    Hi Plein Eire Dublin members!

Family duty keeps me from Art-in-the-Open this weekend, so I thought I'd suggest we plough on with our First-Sat-Month Paint Out the following weekend on Sat Aug 6: since we were northside last time out, how about Dun Laoire West Pier, meet at 11.30 in Purty Kitchen, 5 Old Dunleary Rd?

    JOHN O FLYNN

  • gerard hegarty

    Hi John

You can count me in for the paint out. looking forward to seeing all

  • David Bagnall

Hi Looking forward to an interesting day on the west pier

    David

  • john o'flynn

    Hi guys!

Re Sat 6 Aug Paint-Out Dun Laoire West Pier, I inquired and Purty Kitchen doesnt open till 12! So Can I put back rendezvous till 12 so we can imbibe and convive before we start - unless someone can suggest another venue - I'm can't check anything else out as I'm from the "other side"! I'll come at 11.30 in any case just n case someone doesnt see this message. Given time of year etc it will probably be a small gathering.

Looking forward to it - JOHN O FLYNN

  • Greg Long

I won't make the paint-out on the 3rd.  Unfortunately I'm fishing for Leinster in the inter-provincial championships in Killarney that weekend.

Hopefully I'll make the one in October.

The Ouzos Restaurant will sponsor a paint out in Blackrock main street. The prize is a meal for two for the best painting on 3rd october. all interested please reply. all the best Gerry Hegarty.

finding it very hard to figure out where paint-outs are, and what is happening in Plein-Air Dublin. I'm not too good on computers, and this site seems to be complicated, but can I ask where is the paint out on the 3rd? Paint-out in Blackrock Main St I might attend.
