  • Kevin Freeney

Was forgetting we have the "Month's Mind" for Imelda's Dad in Enniscorthy tomorrow. See y'all next time.
  • Louise Treacy

Aw sorry we won't see ya this time Kevin.
  • Michael McGuire

Thanks to everyone for a most enjoyable day. We must organise a programme of scheduled paint-outs. I'll post something about this tomorrow.

  • Neil O'Keeffe

    Micheal

I'm going to post an event in Clonegal for Sunday March 1

  • Michael McGuire

Thanks Neil. Let's hope some more SEPA members volunteer this time.

  • Louise Treacy

Volunteer for what Michael? Sorry did I miss a post about something you need volunteers for? Just asking.
  • John Moriarty

Michael, my suggestion is for Kilmore Village, say 2 weeks after Niall's, on the 15th March.  I passed through and there seemed like a couple of nice scenes there.

  • Michael McGuire

I sent out a group message to SEPA, Louise (you should have received an e-mail) looking for volunteers to organise a paint-out. I suggested that we get a schedule of six fortnightly paint-outs like we did last autumn. Neil O' Keeffe and John Moriarty have already posted events for 1st and 15th March.

  • Michael McGuire

As discussed, John, post it as a SEPA event for the 15th March. Any probs, give me a call - I'm back at my PC now.

  • Louise Treacy

Oh sorry, I didn't cop it Michael ok I know now, thanks for your swift reply!!!
  • Jan Ryan

    Tintern Abbey

May I suggest Tintern Abbey for the 12th of April. As it should be open by then. I may not be around for 29th March. I will post as an event later.

  • Michael McGuire

Thanks Jan. We can check beforehand, but as far as I can recall, the café is open in April. The grounds will be open anyway and there's a pub in Saltmills where we could meet up afterwards if it's closed. OK three down, three to go!

  • Louise Treacy

Not being lax or UN involved Michael, but I won't make a suggestion unless I am definitely going to go to the place I suggest. Thinkin of heading to the sun in a week or two so I won't suggest till I am sure I can go myself !!!! Don't want to stick ye with place I can't be myself lol
  • Michael McGuire

Earliest available date now is 29th March, Louise. After that it's either 26th April or 10th May (some of us going to Germany around then?).

  • Dick Donaghue

I put a suggestion for 29th MCH at Altmont Gardens, but I don't see it appearing on this page?

  • Michael McGuire

It's up under "Events", Dick. Can you do 26th April, Louise?

  • Louise Treacy

    Thinking Thinking Thinking????
  • Geraldine Donohoe

I have just 'discovered' the Events page Michael. Doh!

  • Michael McGuire

I'll send out a Group message with the schedule, Geraldine when we have 6 events agreed.

  • Tony Robinson

The Huntington Castle gardens at Clonegal are open daily May - September 10.00 to 6.00 pm.(Tickets cost €5 per adult)

If heading beyond the village (which is very pleasant) into the Castle grounds, we need to check first with Huntington Castle.

  • Geraldine Donohoe

Thank you Michael....one day will get to grips with all this Star Trek stuff...lol

  • Ann Cahill

Great to see lots of events coming up. Would anyone fancy Altomont Gardens this sunday 22nd Feb the snowdrops should still be there. meet at the Forge cafe on the left just before turning for Altomont on the right at 10 45

  • Dick Donaghue

We have scheduled Altmont Gardens for later in March already. But going twice is no prob if people want to go this weekend. Might consider it.

  • Michael McGuire

I'd be on for it, Annie. I think the weather forecast is fairly OK too. Do you want to put it up as an event - I think now you may have the option to send a group message after doing so - if not let me know and I'll send the message after you've posted it.

  • Plein Eire Administrator

You'll probably find spring flowers at Borodale Wood, too?

  • Michael McGuire

I was thinking about Borodale too, but there are no facilities and no obvious place to meet up afterwards.

  • Louise Treacy

We could always give new Ross a lash as its on the AITO map, give people who haven't painted there yet an idea of what is there for later in the year!! Just thinkin!!
  • Louise Treacy

Or st mullins that's very nice and in April will have the cherry blossom,
  • Michael McGuire

Will you post an event then for St Mullins on 26th April, Louise? Should be lovely there at that time of year. That should be enough for us at the moment (as a schedule of events). Nothing to stop anyone posting other events in between these of course and using the "Friends" messaging option to alert others.

  • Plein Eire Administrator

A reminder that Paint Annapolis Application Deadline is March 4th...A really enjoyable Event, and remember one place is definitely being reserved this year for a Wexford Participant, but more than one may be accepted. . . Here's a link to the PAint Annapolis site, look for the link Wexford County Applicants near the end of the page....Paint Annapolis

  • Louise Treacy

  • Dick Donaghue

I'm on my way. See what happens when we get there

  • Dick Donaghue

Got the message and turned back at Bunclody when I could hardly see the road. And when I got home the sky began to clear ....

  • Louise Treacy

After a dire start to the day, Crikey, the  sun is shining now!!!! Ah well got a load of panels gessoed and toned !! Ready to slap some more paint on over the next few weeks !!

  • John Moriarty

Hey Michael how did it work out?  We went down to the beach and had brilliant sunshine as well as a few clouds...

  • Louise Treacy

John it was cancelled. And then the sun came out Dowo here. I lit my stove in the studio and got a load of panels ready for painting plus Pratted around with other bits of work that I thought needed a touch up!! So got loads done.Happy camper me .
  • John Moriarty

Given that the weather tends to be a big deciding factor, even in the sunny south east, maybe some time we could try for leaving the venue decision until we have reasonable forecast info.

How that might work is via a shortlist of coastal and more inland sites. So the 'organiser' posts the actual venue the evening before, and everyone checks it last thing that night, or anyway before leaving the house.

The more inland venues could take place in the more settled weather, and the coastal ones, where the chance of sunshine is better,  left for the more uncertain days.  Any thoughts?

  • Michael McGuire

I think we've just had a bad run recently, John. This thing has been going for years and I can remember only a handful of really wet days. So I'd be reluctant to change things unless our bad run of luck continues. But let's hear what others have to say.

  • deirdre shanny

Heres my twopence worth for whats its worth.we in the boyne valley group paint out in all weathers"weekly " regardless of hail , rain, or snow , and usually find there is usually a break in d weather at some stage that allows us to continue painting that very day.as someone said lately on d radio, "theres no such thing as bad weather ", only "the wrong clothes" for that day.Food for thought.??We meet all year round weekly and sometime midweek during summer months .We find the commitment is now well established and something to look forward to every Saturday. Beats housework any day.lol
  • Norah Blount

Have to agree with Dee, some of the paintings I enjoyed most were done with a brolly in one hand (if David Diaz can do it - remember his beautiful demo in Wexford outside Whites hotel in the rain and he did a fabulous painting).  I remember being advised to look out for the aldi or lidl ski pants and they are great.  It is messy to commit to a date and then have to change it because of the weather, especially for the host.

  • Michael McGuire

I think we more or less adopted that attitude too with SEPA and I can remember producing some good work on less than perfect days. Of the two recent cancellations, only one was a scheduled event, and there was the minor matter of the Ireland-England rugby match as well as the weather influencing the decision to cancel last Sunday's scheduled event in Clonegal. I can't remember ever cancelling any events other than these. I think John may have a point in one respect - it may well be worth changing a venue  in certain situations. For example, we could have scheduled an event for Hook Head and find ourselves facing a forecast for gale force winds - wind is more of an issue than rain in my experience. Then it might be worth considering switching it to a more sheltered location.

  • Louise Treacy

Yes the wind is definitely a factor near the coast Michael, although the Monday after the cancellation Jane and I went to paint at Ballytrent beach we found a couple of sheltered spots and did one piece each. Lovely day although we were cold by the time we finished it was well worth the effort. We had tried the safe first but wind was well too strong to stick it there
  • Dick Donaghue

Sooooo? Are we going to Clonegal on Sunday next to make up for the missed paint out last Sunday?
