Pressed the wrong thing didn't mean to send just then. Looks like I'm being

abrupt. Was going to say but I don't have a very posh car!!

American artist, Lynne Haines, a friend of Don Maier and member of his 'Plein Air Artists' website, writes:
"I have a lake cabin on Lake Roosevelt and I organize a plein air artist retreat annually www.pleinairartistretreat.com - Don Maier and Nikolai Kraneis have each stayed and painted at www.lincolnlakecabin.com. The only way I could afford to plein air with you guys in Ireland is if someone trades me accommodation. Put me up and I'll put you up. Any takers?"

Whether or not you are in a position to take up Lynne's offer to visit her artist's retreat home in the USA, she seems an enthusiastic and genuine person who would love to visit.

Anyone free to show Lynne some Wexford hospitality during Art in the Open 2013?

  • Louise Treacy

hey Lynne I will pass that on to any friends painters or even Monpainters Who I believe may be interested ok
  • Plein Eire Administrator

Contact Lynne via her own website or via Plein air Artists.

  • Karen Scannell

We have Bargy Castle penciled in for July 7th

  • Lynda Moore

I will be in Co Wexford for the AITO event and will be staying on for a number of weeks. I would love to join up with the SEPA for one of your paint outs. Who do I contact when I arrive in Ireland?
  • Plein Eire Administrator

    Hi Lynda,

Anything to do with SEPA will be posted on these pages, so you are in the right place. When you get to Wexford, perhaps call in to Spectrum Art shop, which acts as a sort of unofficial HQ and you will be pointed in the right direction.

  • Karen Scannell

Hi everyone. I have a portrait session lined up in the studio for next Sunday, but wouldn't mind a Paintout on Saturday, somewhere close..If anyone's interested, how about The Burrow in Rosslare Strand..or elsewhere ? ?

  • Lize Human

Anyone interested in a Paintout on Monday, bank holiday?

  • Michael McGuire

Monday would suit me better too. And it looks promising weatherwise.

  • Karen Scannell

o.k we'll do Monday at Rosslare Strand if that's o.k..meet at the carpark, and we'll have the option of the Burrow also..beautiful spot

  • Michael McGuire

  • Karen Scannell

  • Tony Robinson

    Sounds good.

  • Rita Lett

How about a bit of fun, come to Ferns Gathering on Saturday the 8th June, lots to paint.  You can dress in the 16th century costume, check www.fernsvillage.ie for  patterns if you wish to make a authentic Gaelic Tunic.  Old curtain material would be great. Or you can purchase a costume, email: dpcodd@hotmail.com  Their is a Medieval Fair on the Castle Green from 3-8.30. and lots more.

Its all about having fun.  See you their. Rita

  • Karen Scannell

That sounds like craic Rita. I'd certainly be up for it....maybe we could all go as "The Plein Air Crusade"..... although the torture chamber may still be in working order in the Castle..I'd better remember to count the numbers when we leave..:)

  • Karen Scannell

Anyone thinking of going anywhere this Sunday ?

  • Karen Scannell

Fethard has been suggested for Sunday...there's a 10km run/walk on  from Hook Lighthouse for MS, arriving in Fethard @ 2pm. There's plenty to paint there with Fethard Harbour, Village, Baginbun or Hook whichever suits ..Any takers ?

  • Terence Gillespie

Karen, Very sorry I won't be able to make anywhere this Sunday.

However I am suffering severe plein-air withdrawal symptoms and  need a group paint-out "fix" soon to re-establish something akin to sanity.

  • Karen Scannell

Apologies for the short notice Terry, see you out and about soon !

  • Michael McGuire

Forecast sounds like it might be wet, Karen. I'll decide in the morning.

Sasta Festival takes place on Wexford Quay this Saturday and Sunday. Carousels, puppet show, music and colourful funfair atmosphere and SEPA are invited to come along and help capture it. Sasta is organised by impresario Barry Enniscorthy, a good friend of Art on the Open and he'll be very pleased to see us there on either day.
  • Rita Lett

We have lost a good friend and a wonderful artist, Hazel Cronan, her funeral is on Saturday the 8th in Dublin.  Hazel was well known in Wexford for her work in the Art in the Open, she never missed a w/s at the Corn loft Studio over the last 10 years.  She was a lovely lady and will be missed by all her artist friends. Thanks for your friendship Hazel. R.I.P.

  • Karen Scannell

Very sorry to hear of Hazel's death, Rita. RIP

  • Karen Scannell

Outdoor figure/ portrait session with Anuta tomorrow @ The Swallowsnest...let me know if you'd like to attend ? €15

  • Karen Scannell

John Barry Festival on Wexford Quays next Sunday...anyone interested in attending?

  • Mary Somers

Thanks for letting me know Karen, not sure if I can make it this week although I really did enjoy my maiden voyage last Sunday. Even the rain didn't cast a shadow on my day of fun. It was lovely to meet you and the other artists. :)

  • Karen Scannell

Hi Mary. Lovely to meet you too last Sunday..you truley got Christened on your first paintout :)

I hope you've been "bitten by the bug", and hope we'll meet again at another paintout !

  • Lynda Moore

I will be at AITO and would very much love to meet up. If there is a paintout after the event I would enjoy painting with you.
  • Kevin Freeney

Tintern tomorrow, yeah count me in, for the morning anyway!

  • Karen Scannell

    Kilmore Quay this Sunday ?

  • Lynne Mac Chonnchradha

    Sounds cooool. See you there!

  • Michael McGuire

    Sounds great. Count me in!

  • Billyo O'Donnell

Heading to west Ireland? After the event I plan to kick around in this part of Ireland, Dingle, Kilarney, etc., for a few days of painting. I am open to any suggestions such as where to stay. Places that are a must see/paint. Or joining anyone headed that way. I will be flying out of Shannon.

  • Lynda Moore

@Billyo I am up for that.
  • Kevin Freeney

Or Karen, we could all go up to the RDS on Sunday 14th to support you in the Dublin heat of the Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year? http://skyarts.sky.com/portrait/dublin
  • Billyo O'Donnell

Hi Lynda, your welcome to join. Lets see if there is anyone else headed that way. Or that may have other suggestions for areas to visit. I have made no plans and am flexible. I have rented a car for 4 days and am a little nervous about driving on the wrong side. The drop off fee is huge. I think I could pay for someones gasoline for a couple of weeks just with the drop off fee.

  • Lynda Moore

What is a drop off fee? And how do you avoid it?
  • Karen Scannell

We'll give you a few pointers when you get here Billy..Some lovely little gems around Co. Wexford, Co. Kilkenny, Copper Coast in Waterford would be along your way to the West..perhaps The Village of Ring, which is a Gaelteacht Area in the South East (Irish Speaking).  ...

  • Billyo O'Donnell

Lynda, The drop off fee is right at 150 euros. It is an extra charge for picking up the car in one location and dropping it off in another. I'm thinking of taking the bus to the Shanon airport and renting the car there.

  • Lynda Moore

Billyo, I would love to dive it back to dublin for you. Is that possible. Wht is your perfect locutions?
Also, my so (40 years old ) needs a bus to Shannon around the 9th and can't figure out the route. We should talk at the AITO event.
  • Billyo O'Donnell

I am planing on heading to Shannon on Bus Eireann. The rate is very reasonable 17 Euros. My car rental for the 4 days will cost less then the drop off fee.

  • Billyo O'Donnell

Car rental for 4 days from the port just south of including everything is right at 500 euros. My car rental from Shannon and returning it to Shannon is only 130 Euros.

  • Lynne Mac Chonnchradha

Is Carne Beach where the pier is?  (The fishing poles just went into the boot of the car, right next to my painting gear.)

  • Plein Eire Administrator

    Yes, Lynne. It is.

  • Plein Eire Administrator

Some have mentioned Bargy Castle for the weekend (which appears to be postponed in the list above) while others are heading to Duckett's Grove, Carlow. Blinded by all this sun, are we in need of a bugler to call Assembly?

  • Karen Scannell

Just heading to the Copper Coast, Waterford with Micheal R. ...starting at Annestown if anyone with wheels would  like to join us...? give me a buzz 0879335456
