SUMMARY:The Buxton Spa Prize 2015
DESCRIPTION:A DERBYSHIRE open-air art competition is returning for a s
 econd year.\nThe Buxton Spa Prize champions great art in Buxton and th
 e Peak District.\nLast year, 55 artists entered the competition, which
  saw their work exhibited in the Green Man Gallery in Buxton and was s
 een by hundreds of visitors.\nThe Buxton Spa Prize hopes to attract an
 d encourage artists of all ages and abilities to paint the town in the
  open air – en plein air – during May and June.\n\nThe aim is to r
 aise the profile of artists and their work and enhance Buxton's reputa
 tion as a centre for arts and culture.\nThe art prize was inspired by 
 similar competitions in Bath and Bristol.\nThere are a number of categ
 ories and prizes. There is a children's prize, the 11-to-17-year-old B
 uxton Spa teen prize, the Buxton Spa young person's prize for those ag
 ed 18 to 25, and an open category, which has a first prize of £5,000 
 donated by the Trevor Osborne Charitable Trust, as well as second and 
 third cash awards.\nThere is a sketchbook prize, which gained a lot of
  interest in 2014, and will be repeated this year with a prize of £2,
 000.\nThe prize judges include renowned Salford artist Harold Riley, l
 eading UK en plein air artists Ken Howard and Pete \"The Street\" Brow
 n, as well as the chairman of Visit England, Penelope Viscountess Cobh
 am.\nArtists can register to enter online from April 1 until May 18. E
 ntrants will be required to visit Buxton between those dates to draw t
 heir location by ballot and have their board or canvas stamped.\nThe d
 eadline for submissions is July 5 and all entries will be showcased in
  an exhibition at The Green Man Gallery in the town from July 17 until
  August 31. This will also provide artists with the opportunity to sel
 l their work.\nThe organisers – Neil Scowcroft, Daniel Winter, Emma 
 Potter and Liz Mackenzie – have invited local people to pick 40 outd
 oor locations across the town which will be painted and each entrant w
 ill be offered a location by ballot.\nChildren and young people are en
 couraged to create a piece inspired by what they love about Buxton and
  have the chance to win vouchers for art materials.\nThe prize is spon
 sored by Vision Buxton and No 6 The Square Tearooms.\nFor more details
