Plein Eire

Your Site For Artists Who Paint Outdoors

This was my second painting last Friday. Painted a couple of hours later than the first one, the sun had come out, but at mid-day in August there are little or no shadows. A real challenge then to convey a sense of bright sunlight - the cool colours of the distant trees helped as did the ruts on the path.

It's oil on 10" x 12" MDF board.

Thanks Sally. The changes are very subtle. There's a little more contrast in the area where the track approaches the background trees. And I added some hints of cast shadow (blue) in the track here and there. Anyway, here's the updated version.

I love this Michael but would be very interested to see how you 'improved' it! Really evocative of the season of mists etc.

Thanks Deirdre. I worked on it a little more in the studio a few days after posting it here. Just pushed the contrast a bit more. Reluctant to re-post it - afraid of the plein air police! Glad you saw what I was trying to do.
