We all had a wonderful day at the Altamont Gardens in Carlow on Sunday. Made a lot of new friends. I met Shiela Foley and she invited me to join Grahame Booth's workshop in Kilkenny. My daughter Heather Blackmore and I had a great weekend of…

Painting without lines

Here's a blog by Eric Michaels on painting without an initial drawing; the advantages and method used.

http://enpleinairpro.com/EnPleinZone/newsletters/oct11.html

In it, Michaels talks about carving out the subject (2 swans) by painting the background.

This seemed apt because anyone who watched the Art in the Open 2011 video will have seen Lori Putnam painting a crowd scene on Main Street,…

response to the Canidan Group of Seven posted by Tony Robinson

I was fortunite to visit the original gallery about seven years ago, and it was a very well laid out show, including the contemporaries. Each artist had their own space, laid out next to each other. From what i can remember it was quite a walk, but well worth it. They are brilliant examples of plein air painting at its best. I hope that the show in the Dulwich Picture Gallry is as  good. I would encourage you if you are in Torento go mand see the original exhibition space.
