KEVIN LEWIS'S PAGE

Mainly a "watercolour artist", my paintings are representational works of the ordinary streets, countryside and coastal areas that surround us daily. My passion is for painting buildings and boats and I love to find that unusual viewpoint of familiar places. I like to think of watercolour as an act of Faith, Hope and Clarity, as one well-known artist once described it. Have Faith in ones ability, Hope it turns out alright and endeavour to maintain the Clarity  I also enjoy drawing very much.

"Kyrle I love this! It is a wonderful painting, so light and clean luminous washes, brilliant. Agree with Sally re the rendering of the greenery on the top. Colours are beautiful.  Was this done with your Schminke's?"

Hi Kevin, congrats on selling the great painting. Had no doubts about it flying away. Well done, it is a beauty. Kyrle

What do you mean you haven't done any painting for a while? What makes these urban sketches and not paintings??  You have a great foundation for a collection of Buildings of Wexford there.

We're going to the Ploughing tomorrow and I'm going to bring my little bag with me.  That is one of the big attractions of Urban sketching - its so easy to accommodate the materials about your person, in your pockets, handbag etc.  We'll see what happens.

hi Kevin. Thanks . you are absolutely right about bay of Naples. From top of Killiney Hill it looks like Sorrento. I don't know if you have ever been up the hill but the whore area is called Sorrento Road Dalkey. I go up there most days with Doggies. and have taken to sketching it. it keeps defeating me.

I put todays sketch on the main page. I was going great with it until I ran out of water. in a fit of genius I used the tea in my flask to finish it. I finished it alright, good and proper. so i have just tweaked it in the sink. I got most of Sh...y brown off of it .LOL. by the way your portraits are fantastic. Ive only ever seen Sheilas but now the others too. Great!!

2019 Lion's Club Art Exhibition Entry

Well, it's that time of the year for the annual Lion's Club Art exhibition at Wexford Arts Centre.  Was honoured last year when my entry won a merit award so felt obliged to put one in again for this year. The result - 'Friary Stained Glass Windows' - took eight days to complete and is a watercolour pen and wash on an 18x14 watercolour board. Exhibition starts tomorrow 25th and runs for a month.…

Mary Street, Commission

Now that Autumn has passed and we enter Winter, haven't been outside much doing many paintings.  However I was lucky enough to be given a couple of commissions lately and the one posted here is my favourite of the pair.  It is of my favourite building in Wexford - the Franciscan Friary, which I have painted many times from various angles, but this is the iconic view from the bottom of Mary Street: and I believe is on its way to someone for Christmas.  I was very happy with the result as it…

Sheila

Following up on a request from Sally Downey to have a go at more portraits here's one of my God daughter Sheila, rendered today. Happy enough with it, but sadly doesn't really do such a gorgeous girl justice. Still will keep trying. …
