Mainly a "watercolour artist", my paintings are representational works of the ordinary streets, countryside and coastal areas that surround us daily. My passion is for painting buildings and boats and I love to find that unusual viewpoint of familiar places. To quote a favourite artist of mine, Andrew Pitt -" I like to think of painting as re-creation not recreation".
I also enjoy drawing very much.

"Very nice work John. This one is my favourite of the five. That master painter of light, - Michael McGuire - I'd recognise that hat and stance anywhere."

"Great idea Sally and Kevin, I love his watercolours as they seem more lively than his oils, I think he got jaded doing so many portraits, no problem to you Kevin to try his methods"

Not sure yet, Kevin, where we’re off to this weekend. Might you be in the area? We went to Virginia last Sat. It was beautiful and I’m sure we’ll do it again sometime. You missed a great time at  the Dublin Fest.  And Connemara was its usual very enjoyable with a great crowd numerically and craicwise.  Don’t forget we’re off to Donegal for a few nights 19th August.   Might you join us there?

I like your use of the w/c pencils.  That barge does look interesting and I’m sure, although I really know nothing about it,  looked very foreign in Wexford.

I think I’ve already sent you the Donegal details but if you can’t find them and are interested let me know. All the best. Sally

Hi Kevin, congrats on selling the great painting. Had no doubts about it flying away. Well done, it is a beauty. Kyrle

What do you mean you haven't done any painting for a while? What makes these urban sketches and not paintings??  You have a great foundation for a collection of Buildings of Wexford there.

We're going to the Ploughing tomorrow and I'm going to bring my little bag with me.  That is one of the big attractions of Urban sketching - its so easy to accommodate the materials about your person, in your pockets, handbag etc.  We'll see what happens.

Sail on the Norfolk Broads

Small w/c 7ins x 6ins from a photo sent to me by my friend Linda in East Anglia. Used only three colours altogether, Payne's Grey, Raw Umber and Olive Green. Hopefully will get to visit the area at some stage in the future as it looks so beautiful.

Park House Gatelodge

Out walking last week I passed this well-known landmark and did a quick pencil sketch from which I completed this painting yesterday. It's on Saunders Waterford 300lb rough paper and measures 7.5ins x 11.5 ins.
