Cathal keep posting giant the blogs, and get the sketchbook out. Ivecoften been afraid of posting my little outdoor sketches as compared to the painting they seem silly but I'll post a few now as well as trying to paint for the howth one - I've abandoned the maps as I couldn't get the little figure to go where I wanted lol, take care, Norah

Cathal, couldn't help feeling that your last comments sounded like a farewell. I hope not. I know you feel you are a confirmed studio painter but once you have dipped your toe en plein air you will find that its not only a pleasure in itself but also a very useful tool for your studio painting. Your.    Im sure your Social life is more than satisfactory as it is but we do enjoy our meet-ups each week.  Last month the Administrator invited us to share examples of what we were doing the lock-down situation -  views from our wibdows, still-lifes, srlf-pirtrait, garden painting. So keep them coming.

Hi Cathal, sorry to see that all but one of your very fine paintings have disappeared from the site. Reading between the lines of your comment regarding Kyrle's self-portrait I can't help but feel that you may be having second thoughts about posting anything in future. Please do not stop uploading your work, it is wonderful for someone who is only painting one year. You are so prolific and your love and enthusiasm for art and painting shines through in all your works. I would also miss your encouraging, or not, comments and critiques. We all need to hear what others think of our efforts - good or bad - as it is from these we learn to improve.

For many years, I too was a 'studio artist' and only went outside to sketch. It was the initial Art in the Open festival here in Wexford that got me out painting, and although I never feel I do my best work out of doors, it is a wonderful experience. You see things you would never notice in a photograph and like life-drawing, you really learn to observe. However, the best part for me at any rate, is the meeting and making of new friends, and the company of fellow artists and coffee and chat afterwards really make plein air painting worthwhile.

Please take Kyrle's invitation to join him and the Boyne Valley group on a paint-out whenever the opportunity arises. You won't regret it!  In the meantime why not upload any of your studio and photographic aided works as a Blog post, and your outdoor sketches as normal. Stay with us. Cheers Kevin.
